I was looking diary pics and noticed that Don Young doesn't seem to be covering up the vines, Don if you are reading this, am I mistaken? I was under the impression that everyone does it and am wondering if there is a reason why or why not.

i dont bury main i like to keep eye on it for any soft spots so i can heal them i do add dirt to main leaf nodes so top root forms then once root hits dirt i wash away dirt or i get a door knob looking top root that dont develope i bury sides. a buried vine if real wet risks rot if i happen to ever neeed to cut a side i got many wont set me back much-but only one main keep close eye on it later if smallest spots need attention i use bleach and dry sulpher powder to heal and scab over small issues before they get out of hand

Thanks Don. I wasn't going to bury my main vine this year, just the secondarys. Now I will add soil at each leaf nodes.

The physical structure of the patch soil needs to be the growers guide. Heavy clay on flat terrain won't drain well hence fostering fusarium and other soil borne diseases.
The mounding of organic amendments results in an airy crown that drains well. Hopefully this condition is reached before these diseases become manifest.
