Before this turns into another season of “As The Pumpkin Turns”, I’ve mentioned, I’m not retired, I do landscaping and don’t always have the desire and the motivation to start all over again when I get home. I don’t currently own a farm and I have display commitments when it comes to growing pumpkins first. I have nothing to feel inferior over when I’m not even competing at this point.

Everyone is brave on a computer. Why I don’t respect the 10 on 1 attacks. Next time I have a vacation, if anyone wants to meet in person and sit down and discuss our differences, one on one, that’s different. There are growers who’ve been made to feel uncomfortable and inferior and as long as growers like those read my posts and feel comfortable e-mailing me, I’ll post.

With posts and replies on Mega Grow and gibberellic acid and how to use them, as many by top growers, going back as far as 2002 on the site? No one is using them? But that’s not the focus, making sure growers who don’t use them and aren’t aware of their use don’t get suckered into bets or feel inferior as growers when they're not is.

Nothing would make me happier and I've asked nicely if certain growers would do just that. But for some reason they won't. I'm either not suppose to say anything or only things they want to hear.

Pumpkins that don't pollinate abort, the hormones needed to set and develope the fruit are produced by the seeds.
Only GA3 can substitute.

And when I found threads like these, http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=3&p=223990,
to call the guy out with and I or no one he was trying to bet have heard from him since, obviously there was something about his amazing seedless greenhouse varities.

Don't know why you have such a beef with others -- I mean whether a grower uses something to produce a larger fruit or not doesn't really matter - you mention the use of things like steroids etc. in other sports but there is a big difference there -- by the organizations rules use of those is prohibited - as far as I know there is no such rule in pumpkin growing about using any type of chemical ( what next try to keep all growers from using any chemical fertilizer as well because it makes the pumpkins grow larger - isn't that the whole idea.)

Noone is forcing you to compete with others to try and outdo them - I know here in Texas we'll never be able to get one as big as other areas due to the excessive heat here in the desert but that doesn't take away from trying to grow the biggest that you can. I mean come on it's just a hobby and we're all just having some fun - if you aren't having fun with it then don't do it and find something else to do that you enjoy but leave the others that do get enjoyment alone and let them do what they want. If you don't like the rules that the various sites use for the competitions then don't sign up to compete or just start your own site and include some other set of rules for the competition.

Jack, dont give up on your rants, we find your emails to be very entertaining if nothing else... Being "natural growers" we will probably never get to WR status (hate steroids), but God love ya you sure have some out there ideas!

PS note the time of this post, its because after a long day at work, and then finishing my chores, and then working the patch I decided to read your posts.

Hey Marty, Why don't you bring a pumpkin to a contest? I go to every major weigh off in Mich. I have never met you or seen a pumpkin entered by you. You know the saying. The bullshit stops when the tailgate drops!!!

You said you played in a band and recorded in studios on the west coast (as long as you gave the crew in the recording studio free cocaine while they recorded you everything was fine, only you did'nt like having to do that so you and your band left the studios for good, I think is the way you put it.) . Why not use your musical skills and write a Pumpkin song.

Giant Jack. I also have been the brunt of plenty of attacks from people. Sometime's people don't understand a persons charicter or personality while on the computer. Trust me I know this....Its hard for people to express themselves in the cyber age. Its all cool keep on posting bro. That what the board is for. Keep it up bud. People here are pretty good people. Even those that complain and are way to sensative, Trust me people on this board wan't notheing more them to see success from th users of this network.
