I received a snide e-mail betting me $10,000 that they will grow a bigger pumpkin than me. But for the record, my step-father in California also grew seedless grapes. So, I know all about the growth regulating hormones GA3, 6BA and IAA. And their application.

There’s no way to grow a seedless or even incompletely pollinated pumpkin without using GA3. Normally, they abort. And we have had huge seedless pumpkins.

GA3 elongates and we’ve have some very elongated pumpkins. 6BA thickens and needs to be used with GA3. When it comes to 6BA, we have also had some pretty huge wheels.
GA3 inhibits root growth, so IAA needs to be added because it promotes root growth.

There is a residual effect on the seeds as well. Great seed, great plant, only it doesn’t carry to the pumpkin. For that, the cycle of growth hormones has to be repeated.

Seeds produce the needed hormones, why with seedless grapes, they have to be sprayed with them to get them to the size you see and buy at the super market. Just look-up growing seedless grapes for the cycle.

It’s obvious someone mistook me for a fool. Like a number of AG growers, I don’t use them. But I know about them. One look at the grower's plants and how long and thin their vines are, I knew GA3 enhanced. I thought I’ve seen low, trying to cheat me out of a large sum of money, believing I didn’t know.

nothing like tooting your own horn Jack...Obviously you cant smell your self.

So seedless watermleon growers use GA3...I always thought it was that little pollinator seed that they included with the seedless variety

Jim, I thought you said that was compost tea you were spraying on my plants back in '06. No wonder I had so many seedless fruit!
