Do you generally recommend removing the first flowers, those that appear in June, until it is time to set the fruit? I as not sure if possibly there is a hormone response that stimulates growth as the plant is trying to make flowers and isn't allowed to have any because of picking, or perhaps flowers but no pollinated fruit stimulates more growth. ? But then maybe those first flowers just simply rob energy and food from the desired leave growth. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks Michael

Leave all male flowers on until you have your fruit pollinated. After your sure that is the fruit you want, cut all the flowers off as you pruning the plant. If you don't plan on using a certain plant for pollinating, you could cut those off. We keep them on until pollinations are completed & then cut off all the new flowers after that. I hope this helps.

I try and grow organically(I don't use synthetic pesticides, but rely on Garlic Barrier) I find that the male flowers are a big draw for cuke beetles. But I leave the flowers on. I figure if I cut the male flowers off, they will munch on the leaves. They seem to prefer the open male flowers over any other part of the plant. This could be due to me spraying the leaves with Garlic Barrier though.
