Subject: At What stages are lengths at what length?

Does any one have a table or rule on how far the roots spread out at certain points of the season? Just wondering wear i can turn up the dirt with out bothering roots.

stay at least 6 feet away from the plants . I have measured roots over 12 feet long at seasons end.

Last year , I dug slowly to follow each stump root. I found roots up to 6/7 meters off the stump in all direction.

so good rule of thumb stay around 7 or 8 feet from foliage? and more carefu around the stump?

I thought, if you have a 45 foot main, you have 45 foot roots, & your never suppose to walk directly on the roots use walking boards, maybe I'm wrong. (don't know for sure)
