Well, the Pennington 1238's are doing great! Survived a vicous onslaught of cucumber beetles and squash bugs thanks to the Merit 75. They flew in and had their last meal, now I could pick up a coffee can full of dead bugs around the 7 plants. Our most aggressive plant now has a 13' main vine and a 10' secondary growing in the opposite direction with several 3-5' secondaries perpendicular to the main vine. I'd like to prune something, but it has just now put on female buds at the end of every vine. Anybody have any tips or pointers? I added a picture to our diary but it might be a bit before it gets approved and visible.

Our other 1238 has an 11' main and just starting to shoot out some secondaries. The three Pennington 1094.5 and one surviving Van Hook 1145.5 (1161 Rhodonis/1450 Wallace) plants are growing slower although they look very thick and healthy. I imagine that as soon as that root hits the compost/horse manure bed they'll take off as well.

So much info to digest!!! My only suggestion...is pinch off all but two of the females on the "growin like kudzu" Pennington...and of course not the one on the Main!!!or the 10' (back main?) Pollinate the one on the main, and the back main!!! Grow em like a MAD MAN!!! Good luck!!! Sounds like you will have a Slunger for Indy!!! Peace, Wayne

Within a couple weeks, or maybe 3, you will need to cull down to one pkn on that plant!!! Peace, Wayne
