Hi guys What do you think about pollinating the first female flower? last year i cut off the first female on each plant, later i had to wait untill mid of july untill i had a good flower.. early pollination = older pumpkins but early pollination = lower dayly waightgains?
my pb was last year when i did a early pollination on a doublevineplant. this pumkin grow my 716 because it was growing more days than the other pumpkins.
So what do you think? would u keep a 4-6 feet female on the mainvine?

I would not keep a 4-6 ft if that's the first female. But if it is at 8-9 ft I'd keep it (I've had my philosophy on the 10 ft plus rule changed).

I'm not by any means an expert on AG growing, but I agree that 4-6 ft is too close in (might crush the stump!). I think the generally accepted ideal range is anywhere from 10 to 14 feet.

If your second female flower was much later than the first last time , just so you know that's a bit rare there's usely another not to far ahead (not always) but most of the time !

Greg Hopson did a statistical analysis of how far vs. when last year.I believe when is more significant that how far out.I'm pollinating all my fruit at 9 feet this year. Going to copy the champ!!
