I'm sure all of my questions have been answered a bunch of times but I've been having a hard time using the search to find answers. Sorry bout the repetition but here's another question.
Is there a general rule of thumb as to what direction a plant will want to laydown and grow in? I think I read somewhere that they will want to grow in the direction of the first true leaf. Is this true?
Once again thanks in advance. I've never been in contact with such a helpful group before. You guys rock.

Normally the main vine will run in the opposite direction of the first true leaf (ie. third actual leaf if you count the cotyledons) - though not always but you can also slowly correct the way they face if they try to go another direction (just be sure to move them slowly and only when it is warm out - never good to hear a snapping sound while trying to change the direction of a vine !)

Opposite the first true leaf Rich normally. If they're gonna grow in a spot where they have plenty of soil and room then you have to make a decision. I'd hold off on doing anything rash just on my advice I'd wait for more seasoned growers to give their opinion as to what you should do.And I think I speak for everyone when I say that you should continue to ask questions thats what the message boards are for. Don't force the main vine at anytime in the season God knows you don't wanna hear the dreaded cracking sound of a splitting vine. It'll be a big disapointment and you'll feel it.

Daisy fresh rookie input says you use the direction of the first leaf opposite the first true leaf. I have gravit and space working against me and had to get it right. It worked near perfect. I planted down hill pointing and it's gone perfect enough for governemnt work. Pics in the gallery. I haven't budged the formation pattern yet. Good Luck! This pumpkin thang is getting exciting!
