germinated fine, but now after 8 days still just the tip of first true leaf. What's up? Do I put it into the patch and hope for the best or scrap it? Never had this happen before. Usually it's growing like crazy and I have to hurry before it gets rootbound.

Last season I had that happen to me with the 1507 Jutras. It was a late germination and then went on to be the runt out of the three plants which were grown until later in the season. That plant turned out to be the most healthy looking plant I've ever grown. Everything about it was bigger than the rest, the vines were much larger in diameter, the male and female flowers were both larger than any I've ever had.
Once that plant took off I was expecting BIG things from it but it turned out that the plant was sterile, no matter what pollen I used I couldn't get a pumpkin to set on it the entire year.

interesting. unless I hear otherwise, I don't think it's worth the risk of a big goose egg come September.

Probably a club root. But, a lot of people have had good results from club root plants, as long as you don't give up on it.
