This is my second year trying to grow a giant and last year was a bust. The only place I've been able to gather information is on the internet but it's hard to decypher through good advice and bad. Is there anyone out there that might be able to give me some advice if I have questions. I'm going to make this happen one way or the other, but it would be really good to have somebody knowledgable to bouncee a question or two here and there off of. I don't want to mess this up. Have four nice plants started that I'm ready to plant. Just wondering if there is anything I'm missing.

Welcome Rich, My advice to you is get all the information that you can get. Books DVD'S Bigpumpkins.com. Bother every grower and get as much information out of them as possible. Join a local club in your case thats Mass so the Southern New England Giant Pumpkin Growers is perfect. You'll be in contact with all the Worlds best growers. The'll be able to help you out and answer all the questions you have. Plenty of great people to help you out and mentor you and be friends to you. After all where all in this together.Except at the weigh offs...lol By joining a club most of what your asking will become second nature to you, I'd advise anyone who wants to grow these things to join a local club and get involved you'll be glad you did.

I'd really like to meet them sometime. I'm no competition and don't want to be the best. I just want a big bad pumpkin every year. I also like the amount of thought and preperation that needs to be applied. It's a fun challange. Plus my kids are loving this.

You don't want to be the best! Are you kidding me. Why not? You get into growing these hogs to be the best its the competition and goal. If your just looking for average fig then you're not in the right place. You'll have your chance to meet Pap and Ron...I e-mailed you the info so the rest is up to you. this sight as well as the club will help you meet the goals you set forth. You've taken the right steps in attaining those goals you set forth.

Sharron isn't that far from me. I'd be so apprechative to have an opertunity to be mentored from someone like Steve. That would really meen the world to me. There is so much to know and learn it's overwhelming. Will provide serious manual labor for mentor :-)

Thank you Kenny, that meens a lot to me my friend.
It was another long day out there today but tomorrow it all starts to come together. I have my four little green friends inside with me again tonight for what will be the last time before they get planted tomorrow. Hopefully they like the world I've created for them. For some reason I'm really kind nervous. I went from "hey I'd love to grow a giant pumpkin" to a point where it feels like I'm sending my kids off to college. I'm pretty attached to my new green friends.
