I have heard it is bad to till annual rye grass into your patch.
Is this true?

I haven't heard this. I use annual rye as a cover crop. I usually till it in in late fall, or early spring. I'd like to hear any thoughts regarding this.

I've been tilling rye into my garden for 36 years and never had a problem. Just do it four weeks before you plant anything.

KRC, I think it may tie up nitrogen for awhile after tilling(which I imagine any cover crop would do). Maybe that's why Mr D said to till it four weeks before planting.
