many times the OVER THE CHART PUMPKINS are a result of the grower and his/her program coupled with the seed that has the potential to do it. the charts are a good indicator of what could be accomplished.

We grew one last year ion the 1161 Rodonis that was 23% heavy. It is not on aggc, but we did weight it at Great Valley New york and it is on the GPC weight page.

I had a pumpkin that went 25.79% over the estimate, that was grown off the 1233.5 Reiss seed. It wasn't a monster though, at 733 lbs.

so as to not confuse new growers. over the chart is just a percentage and size of actual pumpin is extremely important. such at a 1200 lb est 10 percent over would weigh 1320 but a 500 lb 30 percent over would still only weigh 650 so when condering percent heavy first look at parent pumpkin and relation to percent over it can be deceiving.

1355 Kilburn measured 1002 # and went 35% heavy at 1355. As many may know it was grown off of the 1467 Perham 08

Also I believe it to be the biggest over the chart for a pumpkin measuring at or over 1000#'s.

small pumpkins will always weigh over because they are thick and have not grown fully. ever open u[p a cull? theres no cavity. the over the chart pumpkins that really matter are the ones that end up weighing 1200 and over.

I take issue on the notion that under 1000 lbs. pumpkins aren't worthy of note for % over chart. My 733 lber. grew for 88 days, so it was pretty much mature. Not so many years ago, the WR was around 800 lbs. Back then if you'd said the measurements of pumpkins under 700 lbs. are irrelevant, I think people would have challenged that. If the world record ever hits 2500 lbs., would it be correct to say that all measurements on pumpkins under 1500 lbs. don't mean anything? I'm just sticking up for my 733 lber. LOL.

doug, if you were refering to my comments? i was speaking from a competition growers point of view. sorry if i offended you. it was not my intention. when considering what seed to plant coupled with over the chart weight why would one consider a 700 pounder at 23 percent when they could plant something almost twice that size /potential,with the same percentage over the charts? thats all i was refering to. we worked just as hard on our 700 pounders years back as we do today . the only difference now is education and experience. best of luck this year.

No problem Dick. No offense taken. I added the LOL, to show I wasn't taking it too seriously. I see your point of view. Best of luck to you and everyone. Doug Wallace(I have the same last name in common with you, even if I can't grow 1400 pumpkins yet)
