I piled up some "dirt" and old cow manure about three weeks ago, just checked it today and it was super hot inside with lots of white spots in it. Did I let it get too hot? I ended up rolling the whole pile over anyway. What are the white spots? Was hoping to bury vines with this stuff later on this summer. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It's probably some form of bacteria, I've got no idea what type it is though.

the white stuff might be ash from your compost cooking down.

thanks for the input. I checked it again today and it has a different smell to it. The white spots aren't the nutrients cooking away are they? Would it still have some growing power in it? Thanks again

It ash and is common ... and means you are cooking and all is good.
