Dwaine Gipe aka Doll Doc used to keep this group aware of the changing phases but he doesn't post much today.
The phases indicate when to start seeds, pot out, etc.
Is anyone doing this now?

The legend is that you start crops that grow above the ground on full moon and crops that grow below the ground on the new moon. I started my seeds on the 27th, one day early and all 7 pumpkins and one long gourd are already up. Still waiting on the other long gourd and the squash.

the plants size and weather tell us when to go into the ground. we control everything else with heat cables, lighting if needed, greenhouses and venting.
we start seeds every year at the same time.
the only fill moon im concerned with is the one i pass on to fellow pumpkin growers visiting the patch.

I did plant experiments back in the '80's because the idea sounded so intriguing. But I never noticed any difference, following Pap's advice would be a better choice.

Hmm...maybe the two seeds I started with the new moon and thought didn't germinate are actually growing beneath the ground...

The only thing, I use the moon for is to give myself a heads up for a potential frost. I have noticed that both our last and first frosts usually occur with a full moon and clear skies.
