My 1288 Wallace is lagging everything else in germination and I'm getting a little concerned. How is everyone else doing in getting their 1288's to fire up? Why is it that the seed that I'm most excited about gives me trouble???

Mine was last of the crew to come up and still a little slow. I am hoping in a few more days that will be a moot point. Some have reported low germ rates for it; so if you get it to pop you've beaten the odds.
What temp are you germing at?

all them Wallace seeds are bread for slow starting,,,lol especially the 1068 Wallace, its just something about that Wallace gene,, once they get started look out, they will pass up everything in your patch. A slow starting Wallace seed is a great omen for a giant pumpkin. (Not kidding on that ether)

Vineman, keep us posted on how your 1288 is doing, im betting it comes up for you,, espically cause I know your a pro at germinating seeds. I really hope it pops for you bro. Im starting mine today and Ill keep you posted, In all honesty, I wouldnt expect anything less then a slow germinating Wallace seed, if it germinated to fast I would think something was wrong with the seed.lol

My 1288 Seed was slow at first to germinate. All the seeds where popping up and the 1288 harly broke ground. Hang in there One it broke ground it was a little slow to unfirl. Then one night while checking the plants prior to going to bed I noticed that the plant was looking awesome and the first true leaf exploded. Its now one of the biggest in the litter and I transplanted it today. It looks strong and healthy. Hang in there. I usually have good luck in my germinations. Have a little more patience and monitor it. You should see something within the next few days then get out the gallon pots because your gonna need them.....

1288 can be slow out of the gate- but if you get one in patch it grows and keeps gaining all season and them some heavy long shape dont haul this pumpkin without new 10 ply tires its one mean growing plant picks up steam as season gets going

Kewl, thanks Don. It is definitely shaping up today, and has that look of 'solid'... in a few days it may eclipse the batch.

I think the 1288 will be the next big sought after seed..I'm glad that Pap and Ron where generouse to give me one. I'm doing it justice the plant is looking good and is transplanted in the patch.....Good grower so far the Wallace 1596 is the biggest grower the Wallaces really know how to make a cross...and their seed selection is the best in the world IMO...

Russ Well, mine didnt pop ether, same results as seedlings post. Some Wallace seeds, and other growers seeds aswell, can be really finicky to get started, but good luck to those that have it growing, I bet big pumpkins comes from you guys off that 1288.

Dan, (Seedling),, how long did it take for your 1288 to start rotting?,, I checked mine when I got up this morning and could see, and by the light smell, it was really soft looking and turning to mush. What temp did you have your 1288 at?,,, Mine was a steady 83.6 degrees(in the potting soil). And for a seed that wasn't in the pot long you wouldn't think it would happen to a seed this fast. But all together , counting the 10 seeds I started for my buddy Mike Vador(cause he cant start seeds, but will next year on his own!! I promise him that!,lol) only 3 out of 23 seeds didnt germinate for me, the other 2 seeds was a 1475 Revier and a 1421 Stelts,, why is it the seeds that didnt germinate for me have to be my seeds, why couldn't they have been the ones I started for Mike,,,lol

I have my germination chamber at 85 degrees. I've never had a problem with germinations. The 845 Bobier didn't germinate niether did the 1636 Liggett. Everything else popped up really soon.

I wish I had known the Wallace's take that long. My Van Hooks (children of a 1450 Wallace) had not broke the surface after a week had passed so I lost hope...and stopped worrying about water for them. After near two weeks, an 1145.5 (1161 Rodonis x 1450 Wallace) suddenly popped up in a dry pot. I quickly watered all of them and the 1145.1, even though both cots were in very bad condition, took off and shot out a true leaf within 48 hours. THe others never broke the surface and when I finally dug them out I found everyone germinated (but dead). With all our Pennington seeds breaking the surface in 3 days, I mistakenly supposed that all these special AGs must be like that. Believe me, I'll not make that mistake again! My daughter was not very happy with me when I explained to her that it was I who was responsible for the deaths of some very promising seeds.

One reason I prefer blotter sprouting then planting in pot. I did pot sprout this year and it took them forever and a year... they're going good now and I got 100% but. No more of that wait and wait and wait. In sprouter, I can examine (and smell) as the seeds attempt to wake up.

Good news. I opened up the baggie and unrolled the paper towel containing my 1288 this morning and it had sprouted a root! It went into a pot this morning and should be up in a couple of days!

what did the seed coat look like on the ones that germinated mine was thin and white but the seed felt like it had a full embryo inside it

Mine was white and sort of bubbly surfaced and felt solider than a usual tyvek colored/textured airseed; if it hadn't said 1288 Wallace on the envelope plus 'factory sealed' I wouldn't have started it. I have learned that the best seed isn't always in the prettiest package but. It is now doing gangbusters and I am glad I started it.

Mine was a milky white. It looked like it was hollow and not much in it. I was surprised when it popped up.

Sorry to impose on this thread, but here goes! 4 started,@ approx 82F, 2 sprouted in 2.5 days...older seeds 603.5 Muller and 772 Poirier have shown no movement. Filed, soaked approx 3 hrs. in 10% peroxide, and into 1 gallon pots @ 82F. ? is, should I remove the sprouts, put them under lights, and krank up the temps? Peace, Wayne
