I did my germination test and I seem to always burn the edges of my first true leaf (even previouse years) so that it never expands properly or fully. What is my problem? Light source to close? Light on 24hrs day? Room to hot? Not keeping watered enough? Or when I water some water usually gets stuck in between the starting leaves before 1st leave emerges, (my best guess) so is it causing this? If anyone know's the defenite answer please reply.

Mr. T...no pro, but would guess at least 2 out of yer 5 ?? I do 16 on 8 off...I water after sprouting from the bottom. ...Keep lights a couple inches away from leaves...Room temp, and no bottom heat after sprout, is approx 70 F...No definitive answer, prbly a combination of all above!!! I also start soon after sprout, takin em outside for a lil each day, sunny days, and a lil more each day!!! Hope this helps!!! Peace, Wayne

I'm having the same problem this year with the same setup as previous years with no burned leaves. The only change I think I made was to a new potting mix, Premier Pro-mix RX. Watermelons in a different media are doing fine.

I have had plants grow right up on floresent tubes with no burning. Other lights (MH, HPS etc) certainly can burn! But it isn't good to have light on constantly as plants need dark time too!

I've worked for fertilizer manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, end users, etc for 30 years. They don't need any. Seedlings should get ZERO fertilizer until they're vining. Treat seedlings like newborn infants. Even sunlight can kill them.
