A great hoop house idea, and it looks like it would be a breaze to set one up even with out all the fancy stuff that SlyFox has on his. Looks like its a clear car port type plastic roofing material?

How much do you suppose a sheet of that plastic would cost?

The stuff that looked like that, I seen at Home Depot tonight for (I believe) $35 a sheet! For that I'll continue to use 4 or 6 mil 'clear' sheeting plastic.
It is a very cool hoopcap cover though; but I had a rigid frame greenhouse shed with that on and the UV fries it to a crumbly burnt mess every season, here.

Nice Hoop! Good example of using whatcha can get to get em started! seams a bit restrictive in that side vines will want holes to run out of before the main vine runs out, but all in all nice early spring clotch!

I just recieved a email from slyfox, and he told me that it was like a car port type roofing , or roofing for sheds. First time I have ever seen the clear though. I have seen it in other colors like a dark green(cause I have some of it)
You could make your hoops wider by having two of them and over laping the two sheets at the very ends in the middle a few inches at the top. But I myself wouldnt need to because my plants dont grow that long or big enough in the hoops anyway before I take them off. In the long run at 35 bucks a sheet this would be alot cheaper because it lasts and you dont have to keep buying the 6 ml plastic Okie.
I know I have close to, if not more then 35$ when using wood, Pvc, and metal clips to hold the plastic on.
I know I payed a good bit last year for the cattle fencening that I made out of a frame for my hoops, I bend it into a hoop house and then cover it with 6ml plastic. Anyone ever price that square shape cattle fencing?,,, WOW,, its not cheap! So the price would be roughly the same ether way you go, but in the long run would be cheaper because you wouldnt have to buy plastic every year, well atleast I buy it every year.
SlyFox got lucky with this material though, he told me it was given to him,, what lucky dog!,,lol

Depends on what plastic you buy, Brooks, is what I was pointing out. This year I have a real patch for the cleaning, so I can go other than rebar/pvc/sheeting quickie hoops. Just that that plastic like that is the reason I gave up on that greenhouse I have; climate here munches plastic sheeting, rigid, etc. Real greenhouse tunnel UV resistant sheeting finally!
I do like Mal's design, it has a lot going for it.
Yes, Calf Pen Fence Panels cost. I am making tomato enclosures of them plus LG trellis this year.
Who said AG's are cheap? :)

Check out 'Suntuf' vrs 'Palruf' (up here anyway) Suntuf isn't succeptable to u.v damage or excessive heat (but it isn't cheep either) , Palruf is more of an open area cover i.e carports or well veltilated areas.
happy growning
