ATTENTION SITE /CLUB REPRESENTATIVES

if you could enter a contest where by your clubs
or sites best grower and their pumpkin could compete againt other clubs best growers and pumpkins would that interest you?

if your club/site had to pay a sponsor fee that went 100% toward the prize packages would you still be interested?

i have an interesting weigh-off proposal that i have been thinking about for several years now.

i would like to discuss this at some point, possibly in a general discussion here in the bp chat room at a predetermined time (if there is enough interest?)

if you are curious about learning more regarding a weigh-off that quite possibly could be the LARGEST SITE/CLUB/INDIVIDUAL SPONSORED WEIGH-OFF in the world?
email me at [email protected]

if your not interested in a self sponsored type contest please do not inquire. this would be an event 100% sponsored by the competing sites/clubs and /or individual contestants.
this event could be held in one or several areas of the usa/canada/world . it all depends on the interest.

NOTHING IS CAST IN STONE. at present its just some ideas i have on paper. if i have enough interested ? we can discuss further what i have laid out and go from there.

thank you
pap wallace

Pap, curious as to why you don't aproach GPC or post details here? Sounds like a recient political statement I heard stating you have to sign the bill to find out all teh good thigs that are in the bill. I would love to hear what in it!

SWdesert, perhaps it is just an idea that Dick is considering? No need to get all political, Truth or Conciquences!

I try not to be a skeptic but this sounds very self serving.

Phil, my point is that merit of any idea is only possible when that idea is known. Now I like the idea of many of the side contests here ... they sound like a lot of fun ... and so I might participate in them ... perhaps your organization's contest ... but I know what that idea is. I mean no offence to Pap, and hereby apologize -- Pap has lots of great ideas and I'm always more then interested in hearing all of them, including this one! Actually, I think he has mentioned he was formulating an idea for a contest in a thread awhile back??? It would be nice to know what it is -- I like his ideas! Anyway, I'm not a club rep so enough said, I humbly bow out of this conversation.

That is a shame Pap. I kinda thought that this is the ideal place to discuss ideas.

If the contest is only for the best growers of your club, and your club had to pay a fee to get in. Then all the non- entering members would be paying for the top growers of a club to participate. Unless those growers would put atleast half of the won money back in to the club it would be an unfair deal. And it would create an elite, wich would exclude the growers that would not be considered " best". One of the fun things in pumpkin growing is the chanse to compete against top growers. Any elite weigh off with only the top growers takes that away.
An invitational weigh off, independent from clubs might be a better idea if you just want the top or " best" growers to compete. You could base invitation on a 3 year average.
But your idea might be completely diffrent then what i think it is. The thoughts above are only valid, if you mean a actual weigh off and not a virtual one, like okie thinks.

If it's limited to the top couple winners of each club or weighoff; I wouldn't enter and pay to enter because. The winning fruit of our last weighoff was mine, and it wasn't anywhere near HH league. My biggest fruit for 2009 isn't anywhere near HH league. I have no chance. Also being a site rep...

A virtual weighoff is what this sounds like, similar to what the SNGPG is already running for it's out-of-area members to be able to participate.

I don't think it's selfserving. Just confusing.

Is it just a virtual weighoff with limited applicants? If it is, our club funds could be better applied elsewhere, because no one here yet is in even the 1000# club. We couldn't compete.

I think the GPC and the Port Elgin/Niagara Convention already takes care of honoring our top growers... as well as each weighoff as they crown the winners and hand out the plaques, ribbons, and prizes.

okie there will alwayd be the haves and have nots in this hobby. new growers are not equiped with the knowledge and experience to compete with growers who have been at it a while but, eventually they will get there, thats the way this hobby works.
my post was for site and club representatives ( only) who may be interested in discussing the possibilities with me.
kicking it around and comparing there thoughts as well?

it was not intended for people like stir davis who to my knowledge has never done anything worth while in the hobby, unless of course you consider bomb throwing as an accomplishment. that guy makes me laught.
