if you were to plant one seed.your choices were 998 pukos, 901 hunt,1288 wallace 1180 pukos or your own seed.your own seed would be a 545 dill =1340 hampton x998 pukos.1340 was 1068x801 stelts, the only cross ever and a nice orange 1068 at that.there was only one seed from the 1340 and it germed for danny.ok let the games begin lol hamr

If I could choose only one I'd have to go with the 998 Pukos. While the others are excellent choices, none can compare to the track record of the 998.

The 901Hunt without question(1677.5 lb)and can you imagine 19.16% heavy. What more can a grower ask for Andy.Wait and see what it puts out this year.

I believe that the 1288 is a seed that will produce some giants like Don Young got this year. Not to mention you need limited space with the 1288.

Carl, you know I'm a fan of the 901 but what was Dave's question. 47 over 1000 and as a pollinator 87 over 1000. Kenny believes the 1288 will produce some giants. The 998 already did that many times and then some.

All of the above opinions are good ones. However, I'd want to see what the Dill's produced using my own seed. I'd go with the 545 Dill.

Is the 1288 a proven small plant/huge fruit producer?

Yes North Shore. Grows large fruit in a small area. Thats why I was so excited to get it. It's genetics are perfect for my planting needs. I was told that it throws larger fruit with little planting area.....

lol Glenn! From the 1288 offspring listed on the AGGC the 1658 and 1341 were both grown on over 800 sq/ft plants, the 635 Rondeau on 550 sq/ft,,theres the numbers,,to me 664 Liggett is proven small plant/large fruit froducer,,grew 1353 on 300 sq/ft,1218 on 480 sq/ft,1108 and 1006 on 400 sq/ft,,1368 on 475 sq/ft,,and the 1524 Liggett on 430 sq/ft!! Thats some serious weight off some pretty small plants,,

Auston, those were the numbers I saw on AGGC too...thanks for pointing that out..pretty big plants if you ask me.

Love those Liggett numbers...his soil must be something special and his growing techniques can't be questioned.

Andy. How many seeds out there are capableof growing a pumpkin over 1000lbs these days. How often did the 998 grow a pumpkin 20% over the chart out of 50 pumpkins over 1000lbs.Place the 901 Hunt in the hands of the same growers and we will get there.

How many of the 87 pumpkins over 1000lbs with the 998 as the pollinator went 20% over Andy.

no disrespect taken, there is no sure thing in growing pumpkins, but I'll take a known over an maybe every time. The 901 may prove to the the best all time, the 998 is one of the best all time.

PS- check the GPC sites and count all the fruit that went 15% or more over chart. Some are the usual suspects, many are seeds unheard of, don't see many requests for them here. No disrespect but I think you are placing too much emphasis on % over. Of the pumpkins You grew only the 664 Liggett was 15 % over, the next was the 1287 Van Kooten at 7.45% over and that was your personal best. Why did you choos that one?

Anyway, still love you Carl, like your posts and I know you are destined for the 1500 lb club. One of the things I like about you Carl is you speak your mind, guilty here as well.

All those great seeds that you listed can wait till next year. They won't be any less productive for you then.
However...
If YOU don't grow that 545, who will? No one! Plus, YOU will never be as high on it as you are right now. Since no one else is going to grow it, no one is going to pop a big one to fire you back up about it.
Grow it now and start its legacy that will never come to be if you don't (just like so many other 400-700lb seeds), BF

Dave, that's a great list of seeds to choose from. In my opinion, it's the 901 Hunt. The potential of this seed is still yet to be seen. We've grown it twice & have been in awe of it both times. We've never grown a seed like this one before & we've grown some of the best seeds out there. It'll be in our patch again this year. Thanks to all those who will grow the 901 this year. We really appreciate you giving it a chance. We're sure it won't disappoint you. Good luck.

Pap beat me to it. Why the limit to one seed? They all seem to be contenders, so let more than one in the fight.

If space is lacking, couldn't you plant out say three of them, and cull to keep the most vigorous?
