From what I inderstand from the news the shacking wasnt as bad as haiti. It was just over a bigger area. It also helps to have building codes.

God help Chile indeed. The Andes were created by one of the most volatile tectonic areas on earth and earthquakes of that magnitude can always be expected. It doesn't, however, diminish the human side of the forces of nature.
