My first two year of growing gaint pumpkins i let my plants run North to South and vise versa. If i turn them and run them East to West i can add one more plant without taking up much more area. Whats everyone thought would this be a problem?????
Thanks Dwight

Grew both pumpkin and squash last year west to east & vise versa respectively. Both were DMG'd by the end but don't think direction contributed to damage . Growth rates never seemed adversly affected, both went over 1000 lbs. Prevailin

I've heard that growing them to east/west helps the plant grow straighter because they are following the sun.

Dwight, I plant mine north/south. The only thing for gardening, is plant tall plants on the north side of the garden, if planted on the south side they will shade plants. Not sure how planting north/sough or east/west would affect pumpkin plants. They need full sun so it will be interesting to see what others say. Stevann

My plants last year were planted back to back one growing east one growing west. First two plants I ever planted can't say if it matters or not.

Ive grown n/s and e/w with no difference. The leaves tilt towards the sun and to get away from another leafs shade.

We have a lot of iron in our soil, so the plants tend to grow north-south on their own because of the earth's magnetic field.

A question that goes back many years with AGs.I concluded vine direction makes no difference. I think it's the individual leaves that matter re the sun and I agree with cojoe, above.

I plant mine facing away from the house. Never point a nitrogen loaded AG in the direction of loved ones ;)
