Last night I had a pumpkin dream. More of a nightmare as it turns out.
I was walking around the greenhouse and out to my patch. I came around the corner to an area in between the greenhouse and the road (an area that does well to sprout dandelions) and lo and behold, there was a very stout pumpkin plant. Not much for secondary vines, but a huge main that must have been pushing 30’ in length, and probably 3” – 4” in diameter. Tending the plant was a normally unassuming local grower from our club. I was a bit taken aback that he was growing, unbeknownst to me, on our property, and without our permission. (In retrospect, I’m not sure how the plant went unnoticed long enough to grow to 30’ in length, it had obviously been there for some time, but reason and logic do not necessarily pervade the inner workings of a dream.)
I started to question him about the plant, but he gave a rather stern look, and I didn’t want to press the issue too much. He did give me an overview of the plant (in retrospect, I wish he had given me the name of the seed he was growing, because it was impressive), and pointed out the several vines coming out of the stump like so many arms of a giant octopus in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. The primary main vine was destined for his fruit, while two other gargantuan vines were pointed off to the side, and were being used by two other local growers to produce their fruit. The fire hose sized orange vines were intimidating, as was the scowl and terse voice of the grower.
I plodded down to my patch, to look at the painfully puny plants I had going. “Not bad for February,” I thought, trying to reassure myself; but still, no where near the monster plant the other grower had going. I thought about packing it in for the year, and whilst the debate was raging in my mind (in my dream) on whether I had a shot to grow anything big or not – I woke up.
So I gotta ask, wh

The patch was covered in snow and ice in the middle of August. The funny thing is that friends and Family have told me that they have had nightmares about giant pumpkins also...because I talk about it so much.

I always went into the patch every day 3 times a day. In my craziest dram I had neglected to go into the Patch for weeks. Then my wife, who doesn't understand my growing passion, reminded me to check the pumpkins. In the dream this was not strange but in real life it was unheard of. I went around the house to the back yard and low and behold there was a enormous pumpkin in the patch. I was over joyed, but as I walked closer to the patch the pumpkin begain to get smaller, not really though it was all just perspective, like when you see the moon and it looks huge but as soon as you see it from a different angle it looks completely different. each step closer to the patch made the simple truth stand out. I had grown a field pumpkin instead of a Giant Pumpkin.

That my pumpkin patch was literally covered and crawling with squash bugs. When I went to spray them they all took FLIGHT! and flew to my vegetable garden. When I started spraying there they went back to the pumpkin patch. I chased squash bugs all night! Whew, it still gives me the shivers! haha

I had a dream that Neal gave me all his 1370 Rose packets and when I opened them there was just a note that said oops sorry used this one already, and this one ,and this one. Then when I got up I had to check and see if the 2 I had were still there. Whew!!!

Neal:
Get a life. If your suffering job stress, I'm retiring now while I can. This is serious; you need time off with pay that's 80% for medical reasons. Take June, July and August. Your obviously having some serious hallucination problems. Your a danger to your co-workers. Think of it as a knee rebuild or something. They are good for 90 days.

I had a nightmare: I looked at my patch, the water from the creek was almost up to the top of my 600#+ pumpkins in August, my jack o lantern's were floating away, logs were piling up on my electric fence. Too bad it was really 4PM and I was wide awake. After that I don't let dreams bother me.

I actually did have a giant pumpkin dream, night before last, and even posted it on Facebook, lol.
In my dream, of my six plants, two died or refused to grow. Another two grew but did not produce fruit. One fruit was small, ugly and mis-shapen. And the final fruit was impaled by a piece of rebar, from an unknown vandal.
It was a huge relief to wake up and realize that it's only February.

Christy, believe it or not, Jim wasn't one of the scoundrels raising pumpkins at our place...
Bob, if I was an old fart like you, I could think about retirement. But Ron and I will have to work here for the next 50 years to support your pension! ;)
