Am I the only one that wants the season to start. I look at the abandoned patch and feel that something is totally missing in my life. This weather needs to get better so at least I can Turn the compost pile. The coffee grounds have been added to the pile and need to get turned. So much frost and the snow is terrible. What is the rest of the pumpkin growers doing now that the winter is still lingering. I swear this time of the year is so depressing. But then again I still have the worm farm. Anyone else feeling this way? I'm sure that once the season rolls around I'll be complaining about burying vines and waiting for the pollination time. Thats what its all about, A long process to get that big crackled monster. My life is a giant Pumpkin......

Winter goes by very fast when you stay busy. It feel's like just yesterday we were loading the pumpkins for our weight off. But yah cabin fever sucks. Hey! why not watch the winter olympics to pass time? lol!

I tried doing yard work but the snow was keeping me down. The plow ripped the grass in front of my house. Then it froze. I love the out doors but this weather is killin me.

I worked the last two days prepping my patch. I'll be adding some more pics in about and hour. Right now I am making tater salad and soaking some hickory chips for the bbq I am going to have later. It's 70 degrees here today. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryView.asp?season=2010&grower=49801&action=L

This time of year has always been- well - this time of year. I go to the library at least once a week and look for or request books that might add to the cabin fever. Books from Michael Ableman help. "On Good Land" is one I would recommend to any grower who wants to go Organic. Don Langevin latest Organic Pumpkin growing has been read twice through. I stop by the local community garden once a week just to visit the green house and see what they are growing. If I could win that Man-Cave from DIY and HGTV I would build a "Greenhouse Man Cave". LOL

Get busy with your spring starts for setting out. Plan your equipment upgrades. Start buying parts and assembling your new watering system....
I have two months to patch season and three to tomato plant handout. YIPES!

Just turn the Frozen, snow covered compost pile. That should get the edge off.
For a little while.
