I'd be interesting to hear the goals of some of the growers here. Now I understand that everyone is trying to get the Holy Grail of the big old 2000 lbs. I'm asking what are you gonna try and what are you gonna do different. And besides growing em big what will you try for? Orange and Big, Big and Crackled, Yellow, white?

My goals for this year will be to cross my seed from last years pumpkin with better genetics. I'd like to get my seeds to be able to have the genetics that are desirable and that will give me a better chance of growing them Big Heavy and A classic round shape.I personally like the big heavy ugly Pumpkins myself. Crackled with a round shape and huge stems...I certainly hope to get that Goal of 800 lbs.....But then again who wants just 800? lol

Here there is a couple of penalties to going 2k but. I grew a great cross and going to cross it with one that's shown real punch; if 2010 isn't a wowzer I am betting on 2011.

I'd say the magic is picking something with solid genetics and a family line that's prone to go heavy, picking a blocky longer shape that will hold up under that sort of size.

My issues are now centering on water and cooling for 2010; I have been dinged the last two years for that.

I know my soil is good but not where it needs to be. This year I will be testing, testing, testing and more testing. This year my goal is to give the plant what it needs when it needs it. Also to reduce stress on the plant as much as possible. This year I plan on growing orange as well as big. Some growers have given me some really good seeds, these I won't plant until 2011. Don't get me wrong I've got some really good seeds I'm planting this year. With some luck I'm hoping for a 1000lb. or better.

milford, CT,

My goal this year is to prove out a few of my own crosses I have made the last few years. 1246 Lombardi (998 Pukos x 1450 Wallace) and 1248 Lombardi (1385 Jutras x 985 Werner). Mark

Get a spot in the Anamosa Pumpkinfest Parade float (top 4 pumpkins). I will likely have to add about 600# to my personal best to do that. And only if the creek doesn't flood again.

Well WE have gone up 456 pounds in the past who year. I would like to hold that trend so I would say that 1326 will do the trick. Anything over that is a bonus.

Acomplish making great genetics. Try Schafers fish emulsion, Azo's, looking for any difference. Use two 55 gallon drums for watering, grow one tomato plant, and maybe some decorative Indian corn if I can find a place for it. Probably harvested early if I get deployed for Iraq with my Army reserve unit.

My goals for this year are to find a local source for Mycorrhiza, get my soil amended properly and then at least double my weight of last year. Today I will be spending all day, if that's what it takes, searching all of the garden centers here in Sacramento for organic supplies.

same as last year, beat ole' Georgie Boy Janowiak by at least one pound and get a new pb. also place in the top 3 at the innagural Illinois Monsters of the Midway GPC Weigh-Off at Bengston's Farm in Homer Glen, IL on Sunday Oct. 3rd. (southwest side chicago suburb right off I-80 and I-355) that may be a tall order with some of the Midwest's best growers competing for a $5000 first place prize on a day that many have open on the schedule.

Continue with my breeding project for heavy.
I'd like to make the top ten at the OVGPG weigh-off but anything over 1013 and I'll be happy.

Take the World record tomato title.

I'll be using a few new products this season including changing my supplier of myco to see if there is a difference.
In the tomato garden I'll be experimenting with seed starting and plant out dates as well as hydroponics.

Duane, you can just watch ~me~ KEEP that record in OK, if anyone's gonna bust that one.... hehehehe (red roundy blobby things)

Orange (pumpkin) defend against all comers. I think the two leads on my list are going to do awesome (after I go broke plumbing them better water and cooling this year).

Oh, and no more broken feet.
