What's your pick for the best under the radar screen seed out there that an average hobbyist can pay for? One that you can purchase and you don't have to make up a song and dance to the wife about where the grocery money went?
My first pick is the 1116 Traylor 08.
The 1116 grew the CT. state record pumpkin that was 500 lbs. larger than anything else in its patch. It has world record genetics on both sides of its pedigree and it can be had cheap - at least for now.

Thanks for the kind words...I have sent this seed out to over 40 people this winter, to auctions and it was also in the SNGPG Promo in 2008. Needless to say it will see some dirt this year and there are not many left...I was going to plant 2 or 3 of this year but I have other good seeds I want to try...I am thinking about a remake and a reverse...

The 1019 Grande grew a pumpkin that was 150lbs better then anything ever grown in the history of Colorado growing, and did so in a cool, wet less then ideal summer. If 1287 is possible here in Colorado, 1587 is easily obtained within the growers belt.

961 Urena, 992 Glasier, 1140 Stevens, and, surprisingly, still, the 1375 Liggett is still cheap for growing the biggest pumpkin ever! Oh, add 1119 McMullen and 1462 Gibson to the list also!

1240 Bogie- Same cross as 1421 Stelts (1385x904). If the 1421 throws big this year & it probably will the 1240 will be chased as the "poor mans" 1421.

I agree with you Bodene it seems practically everything that 1116 touched it went heavy, his 878 which went a shy over 18%, 989 at 12% and a 1449 at 3.7%.

HAving grown alot of really big name seeds...Marc's and My personal opinion would fall heavily on the 1119 Mcmullen seed. Have grown it twice our selves and it has pretty much out preformed everything else in the patch both times... This includes 1068's 998's 1207's....Maybe it just likes our dirt better then the others...who knows ..we just know it grows very well for us. I've made a couple trips down to gene's patch the past couple seasons and have to admit the fruits Gene has grown on these 1119 are very very impressive. Had they made it to scale in one piece this seed would be hitting the dirt alot more. The one back in 2007 was an absolute breath taker. 425" or something like that inches. DAN

If I had a problem getting a seed and I needed to buy one that was to be my one seed I'd say the Holland 1505. It has the 1385 Jutras in it as well as the 1142 Van Kooten as the pollinator. I believe that the seed will be a producer of great things. Joel gives them away with his dvd's and Its well worth the price just for the dvd not to mention the price of the Seed. Well worth it all. It will be interesting to see how this seed does its first year out.....

1528 Starr should be on some lists. Grew two over 1,400 pounds last year and I know Thad's was still putting on 6-8 pounds a day when it was picked. You got to love a late season grower. 1019 Grande is a good one. 1462 Starr also has some good potential. 1236 Harp is an interesting seed with that 1725 pollinator. 1004 Mohr is a great one for big orange. 1129 Orleck is a little known seed that went big heavy this last year and I think has some good potential.
