It has been found that Milestone and Forefront products for weed control (containing aminopyralid) actually passes through animals and livestock "still active"! Manure, grass clippings,or wood chips treated with aminopyralid should NOT be used as compost or mulch in vegetable or ornamental gardens.More info @ manurematters.com. Just a heads up!

Uh huh. Milestone, Forefront, etc. Clopyralid also persisted too long and is now banned from residential use. Not that it was dangerous. Just that municipal composters can't wait the full year needed for the herbicide to decay. Hence gardeners killed some maters in California.

Know before you grow.

Good words kilr!

No speaches.
I stop at the horse stable in the center of town.
Fresh Nuggets swimming in sawdust, wood chips, and straw, Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm, tasty.
Have to compost it since it doesn't stay long enough to be called "Aged".

Some from my neighbor's 20 some horses (I'll clean out his buildings) the rest from my 100,000 plus nightcrawlers. Plan is/has been to use the partially composted horse manure which has lots of weed seeds, on a set aside patch. The worm manure is weed seed free and is used on the current patch.

Even your run-of-the-mill 2-4D has a "half life". It does not simply go away... So if you put that stuff on your lawn, expect that one way or another it will make it into your garden as well. I wish I could get my neighbors to stop using it.

Kilr, thanks for that info, I would have never have gave that a thought. It will be a question I definitely will ask before I put it on my patch.

If we mix horse manure(and sawdust)into our leaves, grass, etc.and it looks and smells finished, how long should we wait to use our "black gold" on our patches, just to be safe?

I am able to get my manure from a neighboring farmer that has three trucks on the road hauling steers to the meat processing plant. Most of the time he hauls steers... steers are males...bulls...so most of my manure is composted Bulls##t.
I know a guy down state that had his grass hay fields sprayed with Forefront R&P,did a great job on the weeds, made the hay, and fed it to his horses. He gathered up the horse manure and mixed it in the garden and killed his 50 tomato plants this past year.
