Hi All I have been working on an auction to raise money for Haiti I have sent out a request for seeds and have gotten a good response. But there is still a few holes I would like to fill. See list. Just a little run down of the plan. The grower /donator holds the seeds and when the auction is done and the seed has been paid for (preferably via PayPal) I will the forward the confirmation to the donator and send the money to the GVGO account via paypal. This is done because the Canadian goverment has a dollar for dollar matching program and I feel this is a good waqt to double our donation. There are a few people who have agreed to hekp Ken D., Tom Previtera, John Vincent. As it goes it isnt easy to ask for seeds from growers whom have donated SO much already but I would hope that we could come up with a few more for this cause as I am really hoping to make this a sizeable donation and hopefully show the world that as pumpkin growers we can do our part to help. So that being said if you wish to help please e mail me at . I don't mean to sound picky but please try to keep the seeds donated to the list as it would tend to complicate things if I/we get more than what we/I can auction off. Also if there are clubs that wish to donate feel free to do so. I only plan on having roughly 25 lots at MOST! Also Tom have offered some interesting items and coupons from Extreme Pumpkins so look for ths offers before and during the auction. The auction date is tentively planned for this coming Friday the 5th. Thank You see list on next post

Sorry you feel that way as it was offered from a member of the GVGO as a good way to help. So that is why it is being done this way.

@windy City - I have to disagree with you - the Eligibility for the matching funds state :
Eligible donations will:
* Include amounts from a fundraising event undertaken to raise money from individuals in response to the January 12 earthquake in Haiti. This fundraising may be undertaken by school authorities, faith-based organizations, clubs, social groups, businesses, incorporated entities, or registered charities * Exclude any donations by corporations, governments, businesses, partnerships, schools, incorporated or non-incorporated entities, and unions from their existing resources that were not raised from individuals specifically in response to the January 12 earthquake in Haiti * Ensure no double counting of donations (i.e. donations collected by a registered charity and given to another such organization should be declared only once to CIDA) * Exclude donations that were made by corporations, governments, incorporated entities, registered charities, unions, or government bodies (provincial, territorial, or municipal) to augment an amount raised in a fundraising activity or event
So I do not see a problem with a club such as the pumpkin growers with members that are Canadian Citizens getting together and raising funds specifically for the cause and donating them through this program in order to get the matching fund.
The Quote is from this website : http://www.acdi-cida.gc.ca/acdi-cida/ACDI-CIDA.nsf/eng/JOS-114172324-U9P

You missed something JD In response to the devastating earthquake that shook Haiti on January 12, the Government of Canada has created the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund For every eligible dollar donated by individual Canadians,

It is not meant for the world to raise money and funnel it through Canada...The Gvgo member that suggested this idea...probably meant well...However this funding program is for Canadian's

Don't see where I missed anything - LEt's see we've got an individual Canadian Citizen who is a member of a club that is raising funds specifically for the Haiti disaster relief, those funds are not from their existing resources that were not raised from individuals specifically in response to the January 12 earthquake in Haiti, and additionally were not donations that were made by corporations, governments, incorporated entities, registered charities, unions, or government bodies (provincial, territorial, or municipal) to augment an amount raised in a fundraising activity or event.
If they had meant for all of the raised funds to come explicitly from Canadian sources they would have also mentioned excluding any funds from international sources.
But to clarify if the funds do indeed qualify perhaps someone should contact the source of the matching funds and explain what is being done and simply ask if it does or does not qualify.(or fully explain the source of the funds when applying for the match and let them decide whether it qualifies - just to be sure.)

I guess if the Gvgo was running it ...the door would'nt be open...."I will the forward the confirmation to the donator and send the money to the GVGO account via paypal"
Spin it however you like...but if the money was not from Canadians...

Please note that the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund is separate from the donations collected by registered charities and will be administered separately by the Government of Canada. This means that the organization declaring the amount of donations collected will not receive a matching dollar from the government. For every dollar donated by individual Canadians to registered charities, the Government of Canada will contribute one dollar to the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.

Just my take on it, have a look at the amount that Canadians have given to the Haiti relief fund ( oh yes we know how to spell )Then look at the per capita donations from other countries.

Well Windy City, the point is that there is a way to get additional money to the people that need it the most. The GVGO is not a registered charity and is currently running its own seed sale, with the benefits to go to Haiti relief. As far as I know, this donation will be matched as we are not a registered charity.
As I was the one that suggested this, I will personally call the Canadian Red Cross and clarify that the donation will be eligible for matching funds. I will then make a post here confirming the availability.
If a group of folks get together and pass a hat around and collect a bunch of money and make a donation, it is eligible for matching funds...how is this different than what we are doing here?
If you have a problem, I suggest you e-mail me personally to discuss:
Do not vent your frustrations here, you are distracting people from what is really important...helping these desperate people!

This isn't cool. This guy (Ron) is trying to help raise money for victims of a disaster. Only in this day and age will there be people complaining about this mans attempt to help out. without getting anything in return I might add. He's doing a good thing and shouldn't be nailed anyone. Some people would complain if they where given a bar of gold and it was to heavy for them to carry...
