I have had to put all, or additional postage on many bubbles which were sent to me. On the average, for a normal sized bubble, and 5 seed envelopes, Postages runs around $1.34. to most U.S. locations

I put 3 stamps on the mailing envelop and 4 stamps on the return bubble on the 4 I sent out this year and they all came back fine (was probably a bit more than was needed for the return but better to put too much than not enough !! - and figure $3.08 is a pretty cheap price to pay for seeds.)

As a follow up, what do American gorwers do for Canadian growers to help pay for return postage? I assume that Canadian stamps would be needed on the return envelope. I would put some cash in, but its American money too.
Just wondering.

The Canadian growers I trade with simply request three dollars U.S. be enclosed.

ghopson,
That is a very good follow up question! When I make the request to trade seeds from a grower in Canada, I send my seeds in a bubble inside of a larger manilla envelope and include $2.00 cash (2 $1.00 bills) for the return mail. I fill out the customs form too.
Some of the growers will "cross the line" and mail from the United States. Others will use the Canadian postal system. I usually check with the grower(s) before shipping seeds. This season, the $2.00 is taking care of the postage.

My latest experience w/ sending seeds to Canada, was I said I would take care of postage, which I did!!! Yesterday, I received an envelope which contained...the stamps off of my bubblie, and $2 US!!! LOL Peace, Wayne PS...I also do the 3 US stamps on the outgoing, and 4 US stamps on the incoming....don't ever want them not to show up!!! for lack on my part!!!! LOL PPS...I have had outgoing mail returned this year, for the first time...saying it needed an export lable!!! When I asked at the PO...was told this procedure has been in place, since 9/11. When I asked why this was the first time I have seen this program...he said "you just got lucky, I guess"!!! Peace, Wayne

Been having to fink on the customs forms to Canada for a long time here...
I will always overstamp on a return bubble to make sure there's enough. I can weigh the bubble in the 'to' manilla and put on exact weight/postage going out; that has saved me some.
If I get an SASB that's really close, it's not too much of a hassle to add a little. (I might feel different if it was 200, but one or two, nah).
