This probably belongs in the non pumpkin related but whatever. I was watching the "Hope for Haiti" telethon and this is worth mentioning. I met Mark Gallagher in 2000 at the G8 summit in Alberta. Within 5 minutes he invited me and my family to go out sailing with him and his family, that's the kind of guy he was. I can't say we we close friends, that would be a stretch. But whenever we met you would think we were long departed brothers. Like many of us, he planned to end his career with one last adventure. He requested to go to Haiti for a nine month term before retirement. He arrived in Haiti and 40 minutes after landing he was killed when the earthquake destroyed the building where he would have lived during his last posting.
Kind of put things in perspective doesn't it.

We have in Ontario what is know as the Highway of Heroes. Fallen soldiers are transported along it into Toronto. The public gathers at each overpass to honour there service to Canada. It is such as sight and a great testament to these fallen heroes. This great officer of peace travelled this journey back home last evening....
We have lost so many in the years gone by since 911
May we never forget....

Sorry to hear this sad story about your friend Andy. There have been a lot of tragic stories from this devastating earthquake. This is another one that makes you realize how precious life really is.....make the most of it everyday and always let your loved ones know how much you care about them.

The best thing I would think is he went doing something he liked (helping others) from what it sounds like. May his family gains peace knowing that that was the case.
