In the wake of all the discussion about getting info on growing larger pumpkins I can guess as to why there is a greater amount of people growing 1100+ lb pumpkins.
In the beginning we had Howard Dill & Ray Waterman providing great genetic seeds for sale. Then Joel Holland ( and later Craig Lembke) started providing some specialized fertilizers.
But until Tom Privitera gave us access to everything we needed on his website getting the right supplies could be a pain in the ass. I'm sure a lot of you can remember as recently as 5 years ago if you wanted a certain fungicide or insecticide first you had to find a source close to you ( and that wasn't always easy)and then find about 10 friends to split the cost with you because it came packaged for large scale use ( not easy to use pint bottles). And you usually got it at the start of the season, if you suddenly needed something mid-season you were usually screwed.
I don't know this as fact but I'm guessing he's worked with these companies to get them to offer their products in smaller quantities. It's nice knowing if you may need a fungicide it can be there that week. I'm not saying this is why there is 1600 lb pumpkins now but I believe it's why a LOT more growers are getting 1100 lbr's.
just my opinion......Paul

Yeah man, I'm a first year grower, and without the help of Tom & his store my 1052 would not have been grown. He is very knowledgable of the products he sells & doesn't try to sell you something just to make a sale.

Hey Tom

I can't access stuff on your website. I get the home page okay, but when I try to click on any of the side bar listings, I lose the site & get a 404 error.
