Nope. Some pumpers vary a lot. White seeds completely lacking the woody cover. Others so woody they won't germinate without sanding or filing. Small, large, tan, white, half a cover, less than half, more than half, etc. If MOST of the seeds are large, it stands to reason you'd WANT large too. But it doesn't really matter.
The key is the seed bounces with a solid report & not a light papery tap which indicates a lack of embryo.

I realized that some of my seeds from my pumpkin that split prematurely were not viable,so I recently tried to germinate a whole bunch of them just to see.I would suggest it if you have lots of seeds to spare to try a few to see if they are any good.A bad time to find out in the spring.

the 1185 daletas seeds are smaller than a dime. after they sprouted, the cots grew just as large and fast as the bigger seeds and you could not see the difference ever. it was one of the most aggessive plants i ever grew and produced a 1125 on a secondary vine retrained as a new main. i had my doubts at first because i have never seen ag seeds this small. the plant made those doubts go away. in this case, size doesn't matter...lol.

The 705 Stelts seed had to be the smallest sickly looking seed I ever seen. Way smaller then a dime, and white. I think the 863 Garrell seed I just got from David, is the smallest tan seed I ever seen. I want to try it next year at my neighbors..

Shoot, even in humans the size you are born at is not always a good predictor of how big you are as an adult.
Friend of mine was born at only 6 pounds and change, and was short for his age (forget the 2x the height at 2 years old garbage too) all up until high school.
He started growing his Junior year of high school, and did no stop until his Junior year in collage. and is not a 6'10" (not a typo six foot Ten inch) tall man, who is not skinny either, he around 280-300 pounds.
That is just a case in Genetics, his mom is 6'2" and his dad is 6'4", and neither of them were big babies either.
So if that can happen, I am not shocked by a relatively small pumpkin seed growing a big plant and P’kin. I’d venture those small seeds are still good, it’s the speed it grows at from the point of the pollinated female that counts.

Opps, there is a typo above, I meant he is "now" a 6'10" man.
