In looking at the offspring of the 08 fruits grown from the 1385 I noticed 2 that threw a 1400#er which is impressive. But didn't notice one that I felt was really heads and tails above the rest. I was wondering what others thought. I was also wondering of the 08 fruits that used the 1385 as a pollinater does anyone know of any seeds that turned out to be above average producers.

Who grew these less than spectacular fruit might have as much to say as the genetics. Lesser growers make do with lesser seeds. When they get great results it's even more worthy of consideration.

I will be curious how my 1385 x 1161 Rodonis will do next year that was only 350 or so. The plant was almost destroyed by storms 3 times and was able to get a set on late. The 2 plants were in prime ground but the high tunnel to the north of the spot made a vacuum of sorts and when the wind blew 50-65 mph the plants were flattened and busted up so bad I almost pulled them.

Same here Marty. I have high hopes for my 522 (1385 Jutras x 1041 Mckie). Plants wiped out by hail right at pollination time. The 1385 was the most aggressive plant until it was flattened. I was surprised to get what I ended up with.

I think you also have to mention that '08 was a farily poor year weather wise overall. You jump ahead to '09 which generally had better weather and you get 4 over 1400 and 16 over 1200.

hi mike
I planted in 2008 a 1385 and a 1207 young.
Results:
682 Rupf 08 (1207 Young x 1385 Jutras) ---> This year i planted the 682 but...genetic defect.. had massive problems with pollination on the 682, no pumpkins.
587 Rupf 08 (1385 Jutras x 1207 Young) The 1385 as a mother worked very well! The 587 Rupf 08 grew me my new PB: 716 Rupf 09(587x682) The 587 made another pb to a german grower: 1049 Baumert 09.
Next year the 587 Rupf will be planted again! Some seeds of my 09 crosses, including some of the 587 were sended out to Phil for their seed promo.

Next year I'm growing five different seeds where the mother was the 1385.

My 1467 was one of the 2 1400's grown from the 1385 Jutras in 2008. I would not say its an unimpressive fruit. Of the 8 or so grown last year 3 were over 1000. The largest was the 1355 Kilburn,35% heavy. That equals 349lb over est. I know I was impressed and will grow it again.
