My wife purchased some 400 Dill seeds back in 06'. I grew an est. 231 and boy was I happy and surprised. I've since moved on to known genetic seeds, but every year when I think about my seed line-up, I always think about growing another 400 Dill or a seed from my 231 "to just see what it'll do" but I haven't brought myself to do that yet. What's your story of your first seed and your memories of that first season of growing?

Cool topic.
I grew these back in 1995;
http://www.bigpumpkins.com/DisplayPhoto.asp?pid=4833
I had three pumpkins that year ranging between 50-90 pounds.
Gave up growing that same year because I was 15 years old and knew I would never grow anything bigger because I had no answer for the squash vine borer problem.

857 corkum in 2002. i did not know what the asterisk meant when ordering from the p and p seed list or maybe it was from the dills. but anyways, once it showed up green and stayed green, i went back and looked to find out i bought giant squash seeds instead of giant pumpkin seeds. all in all it didn't matter too much as i was happy to grow a 375 pounder. didn't know a thing about gardening and i actually dumped a whole bag of 10-10-10 fertilizer in a planting hole where i started the plant. doh!!!!!!!

856 H. Dill (846 Calai *99 X 810 Dill *99) Bought it at www.howarddill.com after a friend challenged me and then told me about the site. I think the most expensive seed was $16 each at the time and I thought that was crazy.
Probably close to 200 pounds, Dark orange, real pretty pumpkin. Pretty sure that was in 2001 or 2002. Didn't do much other than water it daily.
I'd like to grow that seed again to see what I could do with it.

When I was 10 years old I grew out seed from from the previous year's jack-o-lantern. Got something around 15 lbs, but I did it myself. Something you don't forget, even after almost 30 years. People that arent into pumpkins are really missing out!

Same here! First pumpkin I can remember growing "all by myself" was around 1966 -- seed was from a jack-o-lantern from the great pumpkin patch (pumpking fields off what we called the Algona Pacific highway in Auburn Washington). My first AGs never germinated ... first AG I grew was Dills Alantic Giant and was first time I ever bought seeds as seems most seeds I grown I find or given to me.

Ordered seeds from Howard Dill back in 96 and put some soil on my compost pile and grew them there. Ended up with a very immature 142 lb pumpkin that filled my wheelbarrow and I was hooked. I learned of the PNWGPG that year the next year planted a 742 Holland 96.

Anonymous Howard Dill Atlantic Giant seeds bought from Stokes Seeds in St. Catharines, Ontario in 1987. Seeds were from 1986 I assume. Grew 200 lbs, finished 2nd at regional weigh-off. Winner was 330 lbs.

Seeds from Victory Seeds (seedsaver) -one seedling just took off, I'd never seen cots that huge. Turned into 'Fat Fred' the trainer vine. The bet pumpkin did 211.4#, and vine gave me more that were bigger... 2008.
Matt Winey is to blame for egging me on :D
I also grew 2 that were 'real seeds' started about 6 wks later; and managed 425# off 1009 Young 07 and 324# off 1018 Langevin 07.
