Its amazing to me how many growers will hang on to seeds with no intention of letting them see dirt. I understand holding on to a seed for future use but some growers that have a Jutras 1385. What are you waiting for? Unless you have a few of them. Am i missing something? The 1385 is a hot seed no need to wait for it to prove itself. Why not get the genetics out to the world? There's no reason for a 1068 Wallace not to be planted. I had a descussion with a grower about this.

So what is your point in posting this?
Have you actually spoken to growers who say "I have no intention of planting the great seeds that I have"......I think not!!
Pardon my rant...but this kind of post is just so random.

Whats your point to this is right, you made many promises to obtain seeds, you are still looking for more. How many do you intend to plant ?

to plant or not to plant that is the question!
wether or not a seed owner plants that is his/her decision. If they acquired the seed legitimately they could frame it for all it matters. Planting it is what most of us would do, but perhaps the person feels that their soil is not up to the job of the seed reaching full potential. As long as they are planting something and not just hording seeds this is a non issue.

What are you referring to Kenny? Like Bill says how many of the seeds you are looking for can you plant?,over the last couple months you've asked for the following seeds: 1288, 1395,1450, 1350, and 1068 Wallace,991 Urena,1306,1507,1385 Jutras,845 Bobier,1180,805,998Pukos,1041McKie,664Liggett,1092 Martin,1207 Young,1161 Rodonis,,I think we all want to have the best seeds to grow which makes alot of these seeds hard to get. I fully agree that seeds should get planted but I think very few people hold them to not ever plant,,I know it can be frustrating to not be able to find the seeds you want but it is probably due to the fact that the world class seeds you are looking to obtain are very hard to find, especially the older ones,i.e, 1068,664,845,ect,,good luck in finding the seeds you want and growing a new PB in 2010!

you'd be suprised at how many "good seeds" are given away and / or donated by people who have them and know they won't plant them. i've given away seeds. i've received seeds. what goes around comes around !!!

Yes i have asked for seeds and i will plant them and give credit to the grower who has given me the seed. I have recieved only 2 of the seeds that i've been looking for. My main goal is to someday have my own seed to give to other growers and make a positive impact on the hobby. I give respect to the growers that have given me seeds. Thank you. I certainly will plant them or i wouldnt have asked for them. They will see dirt. And i'll do them well. If you cant physically get the seed your after then you go for what you think would work for your soil and space and other limitations. And i'll give you that Auston wanting the seed that is better suited for soil, weather and reagional considerations is a factor. Point taken. In spite of me getting slammed on this post. I still like and respect yall.

Kenny ya ask for 6 seeds, get two, and then complain about getting screwed on a trade and you wonder why?? You then start the cycle all over again and get the same results and once again wonder why?? Seeds are not baseball cards or autograghs!! Furthermore the genetics and seeds are right here in your backyard. Sort thru your emails and check your phone messages I have left or sent. An intervention may not be too late, but.... Peter

I think we have to look at the secondary market for seeds (second trade) with a LARGE dose of skepticism. The potential for counterfeiting is huge. If I want a certain seed, there are two places to get it (IMHO)... one is from the grower themselves, the other is an auction or possibly a club seed sale. Once I have it, I grow it. The "buy-hold-sell" model ought to be discouraged.

I know what you mean Kenny, that bugs me about as much as people who ask for all the top seeds from all the top growers and continue to ask for more. Can you believe those people Kenny?

Me thinks that this post hints at a developing problem. People saving seeds on the theory that as supply of said hot seed dwindles the price goes up. I am sure that there are some out there who are hopeful of cashing in later. Ignoring the fact that as a Hot seed ages it eventually moves into the category of old genetics. Not to mention the viability of said seed diminishes. People seeking them will be very careful of checking out what they buy, (authenticity, storage methods, ect) New hot seeds emerge with greater potential as the traits that made "said" seed hot, move into subsequent generations blended with desirable traits of other seeds. Only a very few of the best of the best maintain a high value for long periods. Of course maybe some people just cant bring themselves to put a seed in the ground that went for "X" amount of dollars at the last auction. Valuable seed in your collection may make you feel good but doesn't do you any good at the scale unless you plant it. Just my $.02 on the matter Hapdad

If a person ask for a seed and tells the grower it will be planted, it should be planted, or returned, not traded to someone else....Bill
