I was wondering since red worms breed so fast.... is there anyone out there with extra worms that would ship me some if i covered the cost of shipping?

You're from Iowa, so you understand this approach to worms....

Build it, and they will come.

Select a protected location (above loose and UNcompacted soil) that might get some captured winter sun warmth. Gather and stack some of the typically known "good" things and build a compost pile, lightly water the surface as you add something else, and add some dry or liquid molasses to kick off more microbial activity.

Now, when you DO get some worms that you are seeking place a handful in selected interior locations within the pile. By springtime you could have 3 times as many worms as when you started ! They will stay right there in this comfy little love nest that you created, with all the food they need to survive the winter. If you can create a frame enclosure of wood planks around the west, north and east sides all the better. A secured plywood cover positioned above might keep excess snowfall or super-cold air from stressing the pile.

Hey Pumpkinman,
I will be culling about 12,000 Hybrid European Crawlers in a few days, how far are you from Gays Mills, WI?
Shipping concern is temperature....they can't get to cold.
