Bamboo skewers also work good. You can get a bag of 100 for around $1 or so. Use 2 in an X to stake the vines down. I do this just when the plant is young. As it gets older, bury the vines.

I use bamboo skewers too. I like them because if I miss one, it will decompose before the next season that I'm back in the patch again. Wally World has them for $1 per 100.

I get bamboo sticks at Home Depot. The ones I get are about 4' long, and I cut them to the sizes I want. Careful positioning of them helps prevent leaf holes/tearing which can happen when they come in contact with the leafs.

Target should have the bamboo skewers. For the S curve at the pumpkin, I use cheap fiberglass electric fence posts about 4' long. The ones without the wire holding clips are cheapest. They cost around $1.50 at Theisens or Farm & Fleet. You can use them over and over for many years.

I looked at walmart online and that's odd that they have them for $9. The ones I have look the same but they are 2" longer and made by "Maintstays" brand. I would bet that your local walmart will have them in the kitchen dept. They are in a clear bag with a white top label tag. I'll look the next time I'm there. The last time I bought them was mid summer and they were $0.99 for 100.

paint sticks get them at auto parts store or paint store there wide so don't eat into vine when windy and can be used to write crosses on and decompose by next year.Jerry
