This will be my first year experiencing the various seed auctions that will be coming up in the next few months. I heard alot of the great things about them, but being new to this I guess I'm a little in the dark. Is there anything myself or other new growers should know about etiquette during these auctions? Are they run like a chat session where there are various growers whom place bids competing with one another? Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

Yes!!! and great question for new folks...especially since the auction season is up and coming!!! The rules for each auction are posted b/4 the auction starts...good idea to read, and follow them!!! Most are the same...ie...bids in $5 increments, don't try to underbid if multiple lots. No chat, just bids...LOL...some auctions allow a lil, and some more than a lil!!! But basic politeness is a MUST!!! #1 rule...if you bid and win...you have committed yerself for that $ amount!!! Send the $'s in a timely basis!!! Dave, I hope this helps. Peace, Wayne
PS..Dave, enjoy!!! The auctions are a GAS, GAS, GAS!!!
PPS...save some $'s for the KPM (KGPG) auction!!! LOL

Dave, also a good idea to print the auction lot list...b/4 the auction starts, so's you will know what each lot contains...also gives you an idea, as to what seed is worth what!!! Make any sense??? LOL Peace, Wayne

Dave, Wayne gave you the straight... and usually, don't loiter in chat unless you're there to bid, on a big auction there can be over a hundred people in there and sometimes there are connect problems. Observing's fine to get the hang of it, but do be sensitive to that if you're not there to bid. [yes you're welcome to come observe, okay :D ]

When you enter chat that night, your name will be default color. Those running things will be in color; usually a bright blue; this is usually a little while before to sometime late that night OF the auction. If you have a name color other than the default orangish brown, it will go back. Don't panic. When someone blue says something please listen and respect it. There can be a bit of a lag sometimes on stuff after being entered, this can make things even more hectic. Have patience.

For those of you RUNNING one, please make sure terms are plainly stated with your lot list. Some can take credit cards, echecks or paypal, some can't or don't. Some that take immediate payments, may have a fee added. Be clear on any fees and what you will accept for payment, how, and when.

Loitering?,,lol, if thats the case then 75 % of the people in the auction rooms would be loitering then,, and you would only have like 25 people total in the room,, cause ALOT never place a bid,,lol!!.
Come watch it Hertz, you dont need to bid if you dont want to, watch it and have fun, thats what more then half the people there are there to do in the first place, watch, have fun and see what seeds are going to go for. There is no rule for loitering..lol

If there was no loitering I would have missed Carl Graham outbid himself three times on a 664 Liggett, lol. Just kidding Carl, it's lots of fun.

Loitering...lol...now that is funny.

All are welcome at auctions Dave and you don't have to do anything other than watch. Rules, regulations and guidelines are pretty straight forward and are laid out and repeated by the persons running the auctions.

Thanks for the laugh Okie...loitering....!!

PLEASE don't be a noob & start every hot seed lot with a $10 bid.
IF $10 is all the budget permits, buy bubbles & stamps.
Auctions attract Heavy Hitters hiding behind pseudonyms.
Lots of new names you won't recognize or ever see again. LOL
Dial up can create awful & frustrating lag time results.
First bid should always include real name & email address.
Winners must post their email address OR SEE NEXT LINE...
Winners must email the auctioneer immediately at the close of bidding.
NO CHATTER EVEN BETWEEN LOTS!!!! EVER! People do get tossed.
Only volunteer stats of seeds you grew/donated yourself.
For years it was considered taboo to post results but today folks look forward to summaries.

What else?

Thanks for the advice everyone. If something catches my eye I would like to compete. I'm not going to be the person throwing down 300.00 dollars for a hot seed(no point yet since im still learning!)I'll beware of keeping the better half out of the room haha. Thanks again.

If you're fairly new to this you can hand over a CC and let them go shopping/night with the gals henparty/etc. They catch on quick though.

Hertz, you will find that the auction can be fun as hell to attend, alot of the auctioneers will come up with alot of funny stuff to say that will have you in stitches laughing, and also alot of the bidders as well, just ask Carl when he kept out bidding himself for a 664 Liggett,, Ha!,, you have to make sure your wife isn't there to throw you off on the bidding, trying to hide a bid from your wife when she walks into the room can cause you to bid 3 or 4 times on a seed that you are already winning anyway,,,LOL ain't that right Carl?,, ha!

You will see what I'm talking about with the first auction of the year with the GPC, Dave Stelts always has a funny line or two to throw out there that will have the entire room roaring in laughter, (in person this guy is even funnier)
Most auctions dont mind you putting in a comment now and then just to make the auction fun, but dont over do it, let the guys who are auctioning the seeds have the chat room, after all it is a serious time for these clubs and the only time the really have the time to make money for their club and weigh off.

One last thing,,, after you bid on a seed and you think you payed to much for it,, look at it this way, the money is also going for a great cause, to help a club out. So ether way you cant over bid on a seed, please help these clubs out, they have alot of work tied up into these auctions and for most clubs its the only way for them to make money for their payouts come weigh off time.

and a CC or henparty, umm, no idea what that means,,, ha!

Please remember, the auctions are run by volunteers and sometimes simple mistakes can happen. Please don't yell at the auction team, they are doing their best with the same technical limitations that the bidders have. Sometimes the auctioneer has to go take a leak or the modem goes down. Have patience.

OH...One more of my pet peeves. LOL
I've hosted many auctions here at BP over the years.
One thing that makes it real hard on the Auctioneer & the bidders is the screen artifact every time someone enters or leaves the chat room.

PLEASE stay online until the auction ends unless the server boots you off. The chat window can be minimized for navigating without closing your session.

Dave & I run a fast paced auction (The CT GS&PGA). We try to close quick. But some auctioneers let the lots drag on for ever. I don't blame people for bailing out sometimes. LOL

If the pace is too quick for your browser or ISP line & you're trying to bid, don't be afraid to say so. Once a lot closes, late bids are always suspect unless the late bidder has been showing signs of "dial up lag".

Have fun & enjoy!

Steve, I can make it so the informational messages about people coming and going to not display during auctions if you would like.

Ken, that would be awesome if no one else objects. Would the main chat window remain accurate with respects to who & how many are in the chat room?

Thank you!
