Cover your entire plannt with bug screen and pray there's none in the soil ready to emerge. Easy as pie.

This may not work for everyone but it's worked for me the two years I've been growing pumpkins. I use mothballs on any part of the main that's exposed. I make little tunnels out of sheet metal flashing and use caulking to attach the mothballs to the inside. Then I set them over the main. I also make little shelters (12" X 18") for over the stump and attach mothballs underneath by rolling them in a scrap of cloth and stapling it on. On a still night I can smell mothballs all over my patch. I haven't seen a SVB yet.
In the fall, I pull the mothballs out of the caulking and store in a sealed plastic bag, ready for next year. Most will last me two years if they stay dry. It may not work for everyone but I'll do it this way until I'm proven wrong.

I do not believe mothballs are considered organic.

Mosquito or Garlic Barrier (same things, different strengths) work very well on cucumber beetles. The same MIGHT prove true for SVB.
Not systemic but neither is anything else that works well.
Moth balls are NOT organic at all. Pretty darn toxic really.

Floating row covers have been used albeit with sporadic results.

Organic I can understand but why must the treatment be systemic?

GardensAlive is selling a nematode/ject (injection) that is supposed to kill them, but you treat the grub that already invaded :(

I dont think thats possible. In order to fight those things you need something a little more.

XXXX Large Panty Hose Tenting or Wrap covering any exposed vine. I only did the trunk and the 1st couple of feet that were exposed. Hence I recommend the XXXX Large for the whole plant. Organic?, depending on where they've been and where they're going.
A prudent man once said, "I'm ALL Organic....
...Except for the chemicals I use."
Good Luck Kevin

Here's an expensive soloution: A positive pressure sealed green house, with a seperate sealed entrance (again, positive pressure) and boot dip. Can anyone say "Outbreak"? Mmmmmmmm....the boot dip might not be organic.
