As the amazing 2009 season comes to a end, it's that time once again to share your most famous or stupid moments of the 09 season. Feel free to post whatever you like, and it dosen't necessarily have to be true...

It was really tough getting pumpkins to take for me, so I was at my last hope on a plant. Pumpkin was 5-6 days old, had a small fan on blossom keeping it dry. Fan sitting on my walking boards. Mistake.... Turned around walked out stepped on the end of the board. I looked around just in time to see fan flip and hit pumpkin, knocked of 2 of 4 lobes. I looked straight up and said whats next. Lucky It still took.

between the wind (first picture) and the snow (second picture), my reemay cover design was the worst the world has ever seen:

Working in patch doing overdue mill cloth placement and shelter building, hearing a 'twok'. Going over to far side to 1357 Main and pausing with tools and cullknife and started reaching for the backup cantelope and said I'll do it on way back, I have to carry it out, it can sit there for 10 min. Round corner and main has blown. The survivor was my biggun!
Infamy, breaking my foot first five minutes of weighoff unload work with a trailer.

Since 2008 was super wet, I decided to rotate my patch to the lower part of the garden and give the good spot a rest. Big mistake, 2009 was even wetter and we got flooded. The good spot only got a couple inches of water, my pumpkins got over 2' of fast flowing, pumpkin killing torrent.

Not pinning down the main vine when I should have. I thought, well, I'll get it later and then the wind came and the main was no longer and had to wait for a secondary to grow, which took precious time, if I had only.... Who knows how big the one I had ready on the main would have been....Next year, I wont put off the necessary. Still grew my PB of 813.

Pollinated a goofy looking blossom on the 985 that later split. I guess I should have waited 5 more days.
Not getting a sheet on top of my 980 when it was young. A nasty spot on top developed on a hot day.

Because of the rain, the sheat that I had over my 683 got wet and fell on the pumpkin. Then sun came out and put a soft spot right on the top. Never dried. I am happy with my first FULL year growing.

Too much miracle grow, not enough water, no pesticides, no fungicides, not completely following soil test recommendations, planting melons in same patch as pumpkin, not shading fruit, not burying vines, not using walking boards, growing two pumpkins on one plant, not realizing water valve timer wasn't working until plant had serious wilt, realizing that even though a 300 pound pumpkin is small that it is a bitch to get out of a raised bed garden even with a tarp and 5 strong young men, not realizing I was talking to Pete Glasier and Leonardo Urena until after the fact... Ah, the life of a rookie! Here's to next year.
