The other day I carved up one of my big pumpkins, and after scooping the seeds out and wiping my hands off my one hand that had been In the pumpkin felt really dry. I went to bed and when I woke up my hand was stuck curled up and had a bunch of what I thought was pumpkin goo on it. I opened my hand and it turned out it was dry skin and my hand just cracked open all over, some of them were bleeding a little and it looks like I have the hand of a 100 year old man I got really nervous and put it under water and it goes away, as soon as it dries off it comes back again. Are Giant pumpkins really acidic or something or am I allergic to giant pumpkins. Anybody had a pumpkin really dry out there skin like this?

I get it too, it hurts...But it'll be gone in a few days. And yes, it's a Allergic Reaction.

Get some stuff called 'heel cream' at Wallyworld; it comes in a pump 'tub'. After you scrape all the goo off yourself and wash down good, work that into your hands... it will counteract the antistrigent effects of "Goo" :)
Otherwise you have to get someone else roped into seed recovery for you... heh.

Apply a silicon based barrier cream to ya hands first and then it should not be a problem. If you live in the country go to the vets and buy it not a chemist it will be about half the price. and yep Udderbalm should do the job as well.

Could be poisonous? Maybe merit or other systemic chemicals are in the pumpkin itself. Wear gloves!

After you carve a few of these you soon learn pumpkin flesh will slough the outer layers of skin off. By the time Halloween comes you have gotten rid of your calluses. Nic Merit does not translocate to he fruit, or the stuff you eat in the store would kill you.
