Jerry, need your subsoiler here quick and in a hurry! Lets see , if you leave at around 430 pm, you should be here by 830pm,, dont worry I have lights!,,,,,LOL.


OK, Seriously , when do you guys like to start sub soiling?,, do you put your amendments down now, along with your manure/compost, then sub soil it in, or do you sub soil first then add your amendments and till. Would it really make that much difference ether way?

Only thing I can see what would make a difference is that if you add your manure /compost before your subsoil you might not get the tines down as deep.

I usually like to sub soil a spot and then give that area a rest for a full year before I grow anything there, I'm chicken of stirring up a disease, but this year its not going to work out like that in a few areas.

i subsoiles couple weeks ago before manure and all that as that will ball up and lift it out of the ground.Jerry ps brooks spell my name right.lol

If you can, subsiol in the fall when the siol is dryer. In the spring the soil holds more moisture and dosn't break up as well.

I did my new patch last week with my subsoiler. Then I plowed the whole patch up at 12 inches deep.Then I spreaded about 12-14 cubic yards of compost and tilled it in. To finish everything, I planted a thick crop of oats.

I dont use that anymore Doug,,, Jerry talked me out of using that a long time ago,,lol,, I have a neigbor down the road who has a ''real'' subsoiler and tractor,,lol
