I think you selling seeds for profit stinks. You compete with the pumpkin growing clubs, taking funds from all the grower's clubs. Get a job

hey paul, does he really compete with the clubs.all the auctions i go on during the winter seem to go very well and they seem to collect some great money.i buy my seeds at the club auctions every year.if this bothers you maybe you should go after the guys that sell their seeds to tom.i am not sticking up for him but he is not the only one that does this either.why else except for supporting the club would i pay 100.00 for a seed where i can get it for 25.00?

Capitalism....I think what Tom does is fine. Paul if you don't like it then don't buy any of his seeds. I'm all in favor of trying to get seeds to club members, thats what its all about. But if Tom wants to sell seeds then he should be able to. without anyone getting mad. There are a lot of growers that give seeds away. Me being one of them. I'm not a top grower, however when a person asks for some seeds I've given them out without any reservations. the fact is that there are so many seeds out there that have awesome genetics that never see dirt. Tom may have great seeds and may sell them. Who cares..Many growers have given me seeds and I've returned the favor by providing seeds to new growers trying to learn the hobby. I do this to make the hobby grow and to promote the sport. I've offered to compensate them by giving them money or donating to a charity of their choice or to be extra nice and to help out someone in need for their kindness to me. I think you should give Tom a break on this. Nobody gets mad when a seed company sells seeds. So why get mad a Tom...An I missing something here?? Can someone please explain this to me. there must some reason behind Paul's post?

FYI. I am just a first year grower.but I have and will continue to share both seeds I've purchased from SOGPG and from my own fruits of this year. All for free of course. I made the post because it is my honest opinion and I am sticking to it

Tom has been around the pumpkin world a long time. He has given me many, many seeds and to others also. I bet he has given more seeds to individuals than he has sold to them. There are alot of people who may have never heard of bigpumpkins.com that buy seeds from Tom, p&p, and the deals. So it seems ok to me.

Paul, seeds get sold all the time ( more than a lot of folks will admit). It used to be like steroids in baseball, every one knew about it but no one would admit it. I've never sold a seed, but if someone else does I have no problem with it.
Tom's open & up front with it and that beats the Hell out of the "lurkers" around here who pounce on the seed exchange board when someone is looking for a certain seed.
And you risk the chance of being given a fake seed by a stranger. With Tom ( or Ray waterman at P & P) you have a more secure feeling your getting the real McCoy.
I personally feel that Tom or P&P seeds doesn't affect the auction sales because it's safe to say that 75% of the sales on the auctions are more like donations than seed purchase. At the auction for Buddy Conley I paid $150 for a 664 Liggett, not because I "needed" it but because I wanted to help the cause. And I feel the bulk of the auctions sales are the same as mine. What's hurting the auction sales is the auctions themselves, 8 years ago you had the OVGPG auction & the PGPGA auction & that was basically it and they got some good money at those auctions. Now there are so many auctions I've lost count of them, and I'm sure this year there will be even more. Most clubs have switched to holding them on their own site to get one in early in the year.
Tom sold his seeds on P&P long before he started his own website so this is not a new issue. And I don't think it's all about money, Tom's given me proven seeds in the past.
I've been using BP.com since a year after it started up & that's the way I've seen it evolve. The clubs are the victim of their own success.

Have you ever met tom and his Dad? Have you ever tour Tom's patch? Maybe if you get to know them you'll see things a little differently. Buy the way this was my first year also. Everyone I came in contact with are first class people, Tom included. I'm sure you belong to that group of people. I mean you're growing AG'S it's not for everyone. Good luck next year.

I think Paul is probably a nice guy. A little bit misinformed and a smart ass but a nice guy. It should be the job of the older growers to educate him on these things.

Tom was the same guy that helped you out of your truck in New Bremen, got a place for you to sit, and helped you to your seat.

Enough said.

And the same guy that scolded me when The first time I spoke to him on chaT, i SAID i'M GONNA RE-DO THE 664.5 lIGGETT, he replied why would you want to grow those old genetics. And, At Circleville weifg-offs, when I recieved a call From Glen Andrews, he said to me, and I quote" What's that a-hole want?. He sould get off LI. and get out in the world if he wants information". with me not even knowing who he was. Glen is a friend of mine I replied. HE asked how long I've known Glenn, replied about a year, he said I've known him for 11 years, and he's a jerk, him and his squash. unquote. I then told him to mind his own business. So no apoligies from me. HE may be the best thing since sliced bread, but to me he is and always shall be a jerk.

And, that is all I have to say on the matter. So if Mr. Beachy would like to apoligize for his attitude towards me, Then I shall be glad to reciprocate.

No Worries Gentleman. Be cool. I've heard that Tom is a great guy and is a dedicated grower. Can't both of you decide to disagree. Problems like this are so uncool.
