A few years back this seemed to be an increasing technique. Lately it has not been discussed much. Does anyone still do this and does anyone still think there are advantages as far as getting bigger pumpkins?

Good question Mark. I've wondered this from time to time.

depends on the plant. some plants spread them out just fine and maybe i prune a couple on the other side of the pumpkin if they get too stacked up. some plants you need to prune every third one or forth one to give them all room so the leaves do not grow so tall. tall leaves snap easier in the wind. i am sure that is some wasted energy when the leaves have to grow extra tall too fighting for sun. and less air flow in a crammed plants is bad for disease. not sure the exact measurements most HH growers try to put between secondaries. it is a good question to ask.
