I had a quite nice suprise today. A reporter from the Spartanburg Hearld Journal got word of my 683 and did an interview. I was so suprised, I see growers talk about getting media attention and hoped that would be me one day. It's always nice when other people notice your work. I will post the piece when it come's out. Thats cool Chris. Congrats. I didnt mind it so much after the pumpkin had hit the scales but before boy I didnt like it. Superstitous I guess. I hope they did some pics with you in them. Alot of people remember pics from the paper so you will be a local celebrity. I guarantee you will grin when somebody comes up and asks "hey arent you that pumpkin man, I seen you in the paper". Its too funny. But again Congrats man and thanks for helping promote the sport.

I agree Rick, I only finished 4th in this years weigh-off with 851 pounds but my hometown newspaper had a big color picture and small write-up of me and my pumpkin dead center of the front page. Man I was so surprised I couldn't believe it. I have been called "pumpkin man" quite a bit since then.

same here, got on the front page of my local town newspaper here last week and then got a call from a news anchor from channel to and got some pictures and some words on the news last tuesday night.

ever since, everyone asks for seeds and calls me the pumpkin man..... the fame feels great :)

Yep, submitted pictures and articles for the tomato and pumpkin weighoffs we had; almost all the pictures made front page just below fold, and back page (the two color pages). Being congratulated and better, being asked CAN I GROW ONE TOO !!!!! Extreme Gardening, not just for a few anymore, hehehehe. Congrats everyone that gets to help promote our sport/hobby/obsession.

Lady, from the paper called today and said it will run on the front page of the paper TOMMOROW, FRONT PAGE....WOW. I feel so blessed.
