Wi

Martin there were 5 unknown sandbaggers. It was a good run. There were times when we were getting HAMMERED with people begging for more...lol.

Sometimes we need to lighten up and have some fun. Acting childish keeps us all young right?

I didn't follow it at all, but I know there were some big growers that were really annoyed by it.

Before I'm labelled as a 27 yr old sour puss, let me declare that on any given year I too would have thought it hiliarious and a good mystery! I even thought it a good mystery this year until crunch time came along.

You see besides the normal worry about pumpkins (splits, rot, vandals, we all know the sleepless nights), this year I got WAYYYYYYYYYyy to caught up in rumors and for some reason in my mind the unknown sandbaggers had like a 1900 lb pumpkin. I have an actual email I found last night with this text, "it does not matter what anybody in the country has if the unknownsandbaggers have what they say they do. it's got to be 1800 or more". Once weighoffs came along and posts were made about "what was on the trailor" etc, then the worry realllly started because we'd always be like OMG ONE OF THOSE PUMPKINS HAS GOT TO BE LIKE 1900!!!!!

Do I have extreme respect for the growing skills of all those guys? Yes! And I congratulate them on their season.

I guess for every 10 people who were annoyed then there were even more who were entertained so I appologize for being annoyed.

I EXTEND A WHITE FLAG / PEACE TREATY!!!!!

PS how can I let a post about "worry" go by w/out mentioned my boy Brett Hester! LOL. When his "small one" split in August at 1400 lbs that caused a panic near and far. haha; good times looking back now of course.

RON AND I HAVE HEARD THE RUMORS EACH AND EVERY SEASON FOR A LONG TIME NOW.

IT SEEMS THE STORIES ABOUT THIS OR THAT MONSTER PUMPKIN STARTS CIRCULATING DURING EARLY SEPTEMBER EACH AND EVERY YEAR.

SOME TIMES THE STORIES ARE TRUE AND SOMETIMES THEY ARE GREATLY BLOWN UP.WHICH UNFORTUNATELY IS THE CASE ON MANY OCCASIONS.

PERSONALLY I HAVE FOUND MOST OF THE BIG TIME GROWERS DONT REALLY WANT PEOPLE KNOWING WHAT THEY HAVE UNTIL THEY HIT THE SCALES.
YOU ARE TO BE COMMENDED FOR SHARING YOUR SEASON WITH EVERYONE.--THANK YOU

BRAGGING,STARTING RUMORS, FIBBING, ALL A PART OF THE HOBBY
FOR MANY ID GUESS.
ITS LIKE THAT LATE GREAT OVGPG GROWER DICK BAIRD ONCE SAID.

Everyone who followed the progress of the unknown sandbaggers; you may feel cheated or wronged or even felt a little nervous through your own season while watching the postings. You were not forced to witness the achievements they posted of, but were intrigued none the less as when it comes down to it, we are all lovers of giant pumpkins. No matter what the topic, we are all easily thrilled by the unknown. That is what brings us all together as pumpkin growers. We all want to see where these giants will take us, and it's only human nature. We all congratulate our new champion as we also joke and cry about the good and bad of 2009. These are the times of our lives. I hope we will all look back on these days at some point in our old age and say "those were the best times of my life". I hope you feel the same way too.

It was fun to follow the mystery. I think the most disappointing aspect of this story is that it never changed. It started as a mystery, and ends a mystery. After all of the hooplaw, the unknown sandbaggers should have revelaed themselves in a fun way and showed off the pumpkins they grew and how much they weighed. It's no fun not knowing the end of a story, kind of like watching a movie and having the power go out in the final 30 mnutes, you never see the end.

If we didnt have some kind of fun, what kind of hobby would this be. So I guess the Unknown Sandbaggers had the last laugh. They had me. Like Duster said, its still a mystery.

Brigitte, AKA Ms. Nancy... Remember now that you are my wife. The Sandbaggers patch was visited by myself late at night, Unbeknownst to the baggers themselves.. For photo's of course! I know all the baggers and their origin of curiousity, If I were to tell the tales of State Fair pumpkins and early seed harvests next year would be no fun at all.... Nancy, Where are you? Oh yeah Alex, I have a patch for rent in Norwood? Cheap....
