The kids and I normally plant wheat and hairy vetch as a cover crop. What are some of the other growers planting and how is it working for them?

I have just planted crimson clover and Austrian winter peas.
They grew great for me last year.

Winter rye, vetch and crimson clover. I need more seed though and am looking into nitro alfalfa to add to the mix. I've used winter peas before as well, just didn't get them in the mix this year. I've gone with and without and there is a noticable difference in the soil when I've had a cover crop in. Many more earthworms, better soil texture, and although I have no proof, but I think it probably helps with the myccorhizal fungi and other beneficial organisms in the soil when there is something growing in the plots for them to interact with as opposed to fallow soil which has nothing to support them.

Does everyone use Myco, during the planting of their winter cover crop? If so, does it carry over into the pkn patch? Peace, Wayne

Wayne, I read in a post to inoculate the seed before you sow your cover crop and give it a dose of compost tea. I'll look for the post. Stevann
