i have my new P.B. of 260lb, and want to improve next year. i have have just found a good supply of mushroom compost. my question is, is mushroom compost a good move for growing pumpkins? i am also looking for underground heating, but i can not find any outdoor heating in the uk. are there any suppliers in the U.S. that can help? thanks neil

I use it every year. I only add 1/2 inch per year. Strong stuff.

I think my 1/2 inch is underestimated. I probably add around 1-2 inches per year. Yes till it in and do it preferably in the Fall.

At the Cooperstown weigh-off, I talked to Mr. Hilstolsky. They set the record for Pennsylvania. They don't use mushroom compost no more because, it is very high in salt.

I agree about the high salt, it's usually spent material. I would avoid it in your patch and go with better compost.

Salts will be leached out by spring if you add it in fall. It's great stuff to promote funghal growth in your patch. Don't add it though if your PH is 6.7 or higher because it will raise PH.
