The weigh-off was everything I expected it to be and more. I met some of the worlds best growers. These guys are awesome true men of class. I'm not sure if anyone feels the same as me. I miss looking at the yard and seeing a pumpkin and all the vines and big leaves. Does anyone feel the same way? I'm waiting on my soil test to get back so I can ammend the soil. I'm excited about the upcoming year but I got the weigh-off blues. I'll be occupying my time with working on my house and Bagpiping. How about everyone else?

Same here Kenny, Patch is all cleaned up with no pumpkins to look at. I have processed one batch of seeds already from my 989 but wait to do the remaining 2 pumpkins which are still doing thier tours. My soil test is in but I wait for expert guidance on ammendments, part of growing as a group! I also am getting ready to send out bubbles to growers who requested seeds. And I am always on the look out for organics to add in the patch...I am busy with kids, sports, work and school...

Your big orange lumps have flown the patch, you have one ghastly disaster area to reclaim.... yes I miss patch rash about a week after cleanup. Soiltest ho! Only thing to keep me going after that is preparing for next year and spending the winter dreaming up the shortlist of what's going in ground in 2010....
Yes you can have the postpatch blues.

Post Pumpkin Patch Depression only known cure is to Shovel Aged Manure until your arms and back ache. Then spend several months planning next season.

All the same, except for the bagpiping. ;-)
Actually, once September hits, all my days are taken with soccer games, choir concerts, cross-country meets, and more. It's hard to find a free moment to do off-season patch prep. But it IS so necessary.

Not me I don't do weighoffs but grow instead for my Halloween display. This is my favorite time when I come home from work to see some big ones in my front yard.

i hear ya kenny. its funny to look at a cleared patch and see one lone pumpkin sitting on the mill fabric. i just inspected it today for soundness and we will move it this week to a friends house. when that one goes, it will look lonely out there. the worst part is the brain doesn't have anything to worry about or figure out. the whole year comes to an abrubt end and then what? working on your patch prep is necessary busy work, but not fun. i like having a big carving party with one of them about 3 days before halloween and then lighting it up with a flood light hooked to car batteries. you can see it all the way down the rt 30 in joliet out in front of the bar. after that last hurra, i like nfl football, ncaa basketball, playing poker and euchre, and getting in a winter dart league. all of which are accompanied by budweisers and jagerbombs. lol.

Jeff, I still like to go to the weigh-offs, but I am with you....these pumpkins need to fullfill their final destiny as huge jack-o-lanterns.
Grow em in the back and pull em out to the front!

Kenny, ammend your soil and then grow a cover-crop...watch that grow and dream of bigger and better for next year!

Right-on NSB! Your display should be spectacular! Nice job! Bragging rights for the biggest Jack-O-Lantern on the street if not the whole town! LOL!

Park a few on a trailer and park on street in front of house. Carve. Wire them for lights. Spray with raid to prevent fly farms. Turn them on just before dusk and watch the traffic past the house after dark. After a few days it gets around to go see those bigguns on your trailer and watch the parade past. Priceless.
