They're only pumpkins....

I'm interrupting a funeral because Martha Stewart's "peeps" are mad at me for talking to the Today Show. The GMA folks are livid & people are texting ME FOR SEEDS?!?! Come on. It's not even my pumpkin.

Lets all relax. We're all friends first. Now isn't the time to complain about weighoff rules. Those were published MONTHS ago.

The GPC doesn't certify scales or police weighoffs. We've merely assembled your fellow growers into a board of YOUR PEERS who have already set standards by which THEY want to compete fairly. Then we organize & disseminate those standards into written rules. For free. Your current board didn't write the rules. We've only fine tuned them under peer review at those times YOU demanded...as it should be. Checks & balances.

It is growers who must police the weighoffs. WE must bring along the rules & demand they be followed.

Now isn't the time to post, call or email for seeds or question rules. Rules can be changed if properly addressed in the off season.

The weighoffs aren't even over. Don knows, some of these bruisers might not even have seeds.

Two text messages, one phone call & a half dozen emails as I typed this LOL. I love this crazy time of year.

Please let's all treat each other with respect like the family of friends that we all are.

If you interrupt a funeral because of pumpkins, then you have bigger problems then the GPC. Who cares about Martha Stewart, the Today Show, etc? If the GPC does then you have assured I have made the correct decision.

Christy is now a celebrity (so is Nick) and they deserve it. Unfortunately, special interest TV and news are going to hound them to 'scoop' all the rest of the mad media. The GPC, as the governing body, is caught up in the feeding frenzy. I personally wish Christy and Nick could escape to Hawaii for a month to enjoy life. Just make a carbboard cutout of Christy, Nick and the pumpkin, tape a message to it and let the tabloids and news fight over it.

I responded to what I read. It is amazing that one can have so many problems.

I guess I do not understand what was meant, I only understand what i read Steve.

Thanks Brooks.

Some days pumpkins can overwhelm us. Those of us who accept the challenges must live with the results. Stelts didn't HAVE to answer the phone but he did. I felt like the fool not knowing where he was but there was no way I could have known.

Christy needn't worry about the media. That's what we do. The more I do it the easier it gets ;o)

What kills me is the bickering over weighoff details & the time we waste on it. Owen is a victim of pumpkin politics. I wish he didn't resign. He's a good man. Some folks get hot over (often) petty things this time of year. It's a shame especially when the rules are so open. No one should be trying to interpret the rules. They are what they are. But every year it happens somewhere.

Seed requesets are like rule book overhauls. There will be plenty of time after the snow flies.

He's right...after winter hits we'll all get cabin fever - might as well save the insanity for then...

Sorry Owen, to see you go. You made the choice you had to and wanted to. Thank you for all your hard work.

Again my condolences to the Stelts Family at this time of loss. Such things can happen suddenly and indeed it can be impossible to know by others until after the fact.

Seed season isn't until Nov, IMO, unless a pumpkin went down earlier; and seeds will keep.

Sanctioned or non sanctioned; indeed at a certain point it has to be faith, goodwill, and trust, with the rules to guide. Off season is the time to overhaul things, I agree.

One issue because of trust in something that became pivotal to other things...if resolution was easy it'd be solved already...some things that may seem easy from the outside may not be from the inside.

Press and publicity are creatures of their own creation. Tremor, I wish you luck and much support in getting to the end of your own season.

Christy and Nick, awesome.

Let's all be calmer and set some things aside and just get through our seasons, it's the 8th and we have to the 25th if not later.

This is my first year growning AGs so what do I know?Growing AGs is an art that needs to be worked upon each year. When it quits becoming fun I would think it's time to get out. Me, I'm having the time of my life. As for me I'm going to have as much fun with AGs and everyone connected to it as long as possible. I believe AG growers are the best.
