we just got home from Japan yesterday. oh, what a great trip!! Japan was very beautiful and the people were really nice! the top pumpkin at the weigh off was grown by Yukio Takeuchi from a Joe Jutras seed and weighed in at 1121.2 lbs...Yukio is a BP.com reader. the second pumpkin weighed in at 1000.4 lbs, third was 900.8, fourth 887.3, fifth was 777.5 grown by Takao Hoshijima, sixth was 759 lbs. sorry we did not get the names. (just a bit of a language barrier for us!!!!)

That should be a new Japanese record I believe. That's fantastic! That is a very fun trip and the Japanese hosts are great. Congratulations to all the Japanese Giant Pumpkin Growers. Thanks for the report Pete and Cindi.

nope, that was not a new Japanese record. the record was set by Hitoshi Hase a year ago and was 1170 lbs! but watch out! next year i think they will set a new record.

Glad you guys are back safe. Sorry to hear about your pumpkin going down Cindi. Hey Cindi, if Pete places top three, like he usually does, at Elk Grove, and I happen to place also in top 3, I challenge you to a tennis dual on Sat. night. What say you? (P.V. grower)

Sounds like a great trip Mrs. Sec. and congratulations to the Japanese growers!!!

It sounds like a good place for a GPC weigh-off you didn't happen to get a contact for us did you?

Great to see you had a safe trip and good luck this fall!!!

I will bring my racquet to elk grove! i can take out my frustration of losing my pumpkin on the tennis court! and dave, the Japan weigh off is an IPA as of now but....i will keep the GPC in mind for the future. ya just never know what may happen. there is another weigh off over there that may be interested......hmmmm...
